My local Casino uses a certain card design, I want to know what the design is called so I can look at getting a set for home. They look like this:

deck-of-cards.jpg

They have a bold design and I like the way they look. I have tried searching for Casino Cards but that's the only picture I could find that matches. Does anyone have any idea if it has a specific name I can search for?

Can't really tell from that picture - most had the brand printed on the ace of spades but that deck doesn't seem to.

You're probably looking for something with "jumbo pips", which is the extra-large lettering in the corners. Beyond that though just search for some decks you like the look of. Brands like Copag, KEM and Bicycle might be a good place to start.

casinos also often sell their used decks once they're finished with them, so you might be able to pick up a set that way. Only problem with that is they'll modify the deck before sale to stop it being used on the casino floor again, usually by either drilling a hole through the whole deck, or shaving two of the corners.

They look very much like a Copag deck. They are poker size (as opposed to bridge size), large index (as opposed to standard), they are not peek index (don't have index on all four corners), and have a shaded centre square. The font and pips look pretty "standard". What is it specifically that you like about them?

The only unusual thing I see is the club in the centre of the ace of spades. Is the casino branded as club, clover, shamrock etc?

I would suggest going online and shopping through the selections of card vendors. If you can't find what you are looking for exactly, you will certainly be able to find the individual characteristics you like (along with the correct industry terms). You can then search for certain keywords. Caragails used to be the best card store, but they appear to have gone away - completely. If you're looking for good plastic card manufacturers, I'd recommend Copag, Modiano, DesJgn (not a typo), Gemaco, there are lots. And they probably all make something that looks a lot like those pictured.

Also, ask someone who works at the casino where they get their cards and who makes them. My money would be on Copag.

The cards in the link look like good quality cards. The price is about the maximum I'd pay for cards that I really wanted. 11.6 quid shipped is about 15USD? Usually one can find a "setup" of two decks with same backs in different colours (in a cute box) for about that (a little more) without shipping. Just a heads up to love, or at least really like, the cards at that price

Update

I have managed to get myself a couple of decks. They are Copag Texas Hold'em:

I have never had a *premium* deck of cards, but they are amazing. So easy to shuffle, and they feel nice in the hand too.

Thank you for all your help finding them

Nice looking deck. Once you try plastic cards, you'll never look back. They will last 10X (or more) longer than paper. As long as the backs haven't literally worn down, you can just wash them and they're almost good as new. Now you can start obsessing about things like finish, index, full bleed backs, etc.

Nice Cards

We play our home game with poker sized cards from Costco. Cheap and expendable every month or so. I will look into these. They look more durable and easier for some of our old guys to read. Not that I really want to give them any extra help.

I showed them off to my cousin who is very sight impaired and he commented that they are very easy to see. Most jumbo index cards are should be good for that.

I definitely will not go back to non-plastic cards

Pricey Plastic Cards

Thanks for the feedback.

I just searched online for plastic cards - and they are EXPENSIVE.

We can get 18 decks of "disposable" cards for the price of a double deck of plastic cards with the large index. My visually challenged friends will have to find a more generous opponent.

The plastic decks may be cheaper in the long run. I used to play at a grubby home game where a deck would only last a session or two. Plastic cards went a lot farther - easily over ten sessions.

Hmmm... I guess you get what you pay for.
I will raise the question with the guys this week. Thanks.

May be worth getting a single pack and testing it out, maybe having a 50 cent contribution from players to cover replacements if necessary

There are bargains to be had on good cards. If you have a US connection, Walgreens has, or used to at least, "Buy One Get One Free" sales that include Bicycle brand "Prestige" decks. Very nice cards, single decks about $13 US. Which means two decks for $13 BOGO.

I used to belong to a chat forum for chips and cards. About two or three times a year, someone would post the "Walgreen's BOGO" thread as a head's up.

Also, most card sellers will eventually have clearance sales for older stock. You can't be as picky about design choice, but you might be able to buy a couple of setups at a good price and make shipping more of a bargain.
