Ok,
Here is my Thread in Tradition of Celebration of My 100th Post.

I made it into a Poll Question so that I might get more participation.
I cannot however, offer a $ prize like others,
(Any Sugar Daddy/Mommas care to volunteer some BR?)<--to be Judge.)

So it goes like this:
  • What is your Favourite Poker Song.
  • Name of the Artist.
  • Lyrics. (or relative Quotes)
  • How you relate it to Poker.
  • What Songs do you listen to while Playing. (if you do)
Ok, here is mine to start it off.

Favourite Poker Song - Spanish Train
Artist - Chris DeBurgh (Don't Pay the Ferryman)<--ironic, but not the song

Here is the story behind why I chose this song.
When I was in Grade 7,(1979)
I was a bit of the 'Black Sheep' of the School
and a few of us 'gang' (think The Simpson's re; Jimbo et.al)
Well we used to cut afternoons sometimes and get together at a friends house and play Poker for Cigarettes and Hockey Cards.
We would put on some music while we played cards.
If a player folded out his hand they had to pick out a record when necessary. My friends dad was a bit of a Hippie, and had a great array of records in several Milk Crates.
We used to put on stuff like
Pink Floyd 'The Wall' was big at the time
*Another Brick in The Wall pt.II was of course our anthem.
Ted Nugent-Scream Dream, Aerosmith-Big 10" Record & Greatest Hits, MeatLoaf - Bat out of Hell, Steve Miller, The Eagles-Hotel California.

So it's my turn to pick out a record, and I flip through to this one called
Spanish Train and Other Stories...
I look at the song list and theres a song called 'Patricia the Stripper'
Hmmmm..Interesting wonder what this is like..
So I put it on and the first track is called Spanish Train..and go back to playing Poker for Cigarettes...

Lyrics to: Spanish Train

(narrative):icon_stud
"There's a Spanish train that runs between
Quadalquivir and old Seville,
And at dead of night the whistle blows,
and people hear she's running still...

And then they hush their children back to sleep,
Lock the doors, upstairs they creep,
For it is said that the souls of the dead :saint:
Fill that train ten thousand deep!!"

Well a railwayman lay dying with his people by his side,:goodnight :saint:
His family were crying, knelt in prayer before he died,:bawling: :adore:
But above his bed just a-waiting for the dead,
Was the Devil with a twinkle in his eye,
"Well God's not around and look what I've found,
this one's mine!!"

Just then the Lord himself appeared in a blinding flash of light,:icon_king
And shouted at the devil, "Get thee hence to endless night!!"
But the Devil just grinned and said "I may have sinned,
But there's no need to push me around,:boxing:
I got him first so you can do your worst,:y: :thefinger
He's going underground!!":goodnight

"But I think I'll give you one more chance"
said the Devil with a smile,
"So throw away that stupid lance,
It's really not your style",:fight:
Joker is the name, Poker is the game, :icon_joke
we'll play right here on this bed,
And then we'll bet for the biggest stakes yet,
the souls of the dead!!" :deal:

And I said "Look out, Lord, he's going to win,
The sun is down and the night is riding in, :icon_sunn:ridinghor
That train is dead on time, many souls are on the line,:saint:
Oh Lord, he's going to win!.."

Well the railwayman he cut the cards :shakehand
and he dealt them each a hand of five
And for the Lord he was praying hard
or that train he'd have to drive...:driver:
Well the Devil he had three aces and a king, A♥A♣A♦K♠
and the Lord, he was running for a straight, Q♠J♠9♠10♠
he had the queen and the knave and the nine and ten of spades,
All he needed was the eight...

And then the Lord he called for one more card,
but he drew the diamond eight, 8♦
And the Devil said to the son of God, :listen:
"I believe you've got it straight,
So deal me one for the time has come
to see who'll be the king of this place,:icon_king
But as he spoke, from beneath his cloak,
he slipped another ace... A♠

Ten thousand souls was the opening bid,
and it soon went up to fifty-nine,
but the Lord didn't see what the Devil did, :stupido3:
and he said "that suits me fine", :stupido2:
"I'll raise you high to hundred and five,
and forever put an end to your sins", :proud: :dontknow:
But the Devil let out a mighty shout, "My hand wins!!" :aetsch:

And I said "Lord, oh Lord, you let him win, :help:
The sun is down and the night is riding in, :icon_sunn :ridinghor
That train is dead on time, many souls are on the line, :saint:
Oh Lord, don't let him win..."

:icon_stud "Well that Spanish train still runs between,
Quadalquivir and old Seville,
And at dead of night the whistle blows,
And people fear she's running still...
And far away in some recess
The Lord and the Devil are now playing chess, :hmmmm:
The Devil still cheats and wins more souls,
And as for the Lord, well, he's just doing his best... :flute:

And I said "Lord, oh Lord, you've got to win,
The Sun is down and the night is riding in,
That train is still on time, Oh my soul is on the line,
Oh Lord, you've got to win..."

Here is a Poker Parody Song

I worked on this for awhile, and it all just seemed to fit.
Some that read a previous post may well notice.
If any of you know the song, you can have a good chuckle.

Rock Star Lyrics (abridged)
Artist: Nickelback

I'm through with standing in line
to Freerolls that I'll never get in
It's like 10,000 Donkeys
that I'm never gonna win
This Poker-life hasn't turned out
quite the way I want it to be

(tell me what you want need?)

I want a brand new Laptop
With a Huge Bandwidth on the ‘Net’
And a Big-Screen Monitor I can play 4 Tables in.
And a king size Bankroll big enough
for Ten K buy-ins plus for me.

(yeah,so what you need)

I'll need a credit card that's got no limit
And a big black Ace with a Suited in it
Gonna Play the Ace-high club
At thirty-seven thousand chips.

(Been there done that)

I want a New Tour Bus with a Loaded Bar
And my own Seat at the Taj Mahal
Somewhere between Chan and
Ivey in the W.S.O.P

(So how ya gonna do it?)

I'm gonna trade this life for fortune and fame
I'd even cut my Losses and change my Username

[CHORUS]
'Cause we all just wanna be big Poker Stars
‘Live’ in Casino houses flopping Nut-Flush draws,
The cards come easy and the flops come cheap
The Bankroll stays healthy cause we don't get beat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good Hold’em Player's
Gonna wind up there
Even Shana Hiatt
with her peach blonde hair
and well..
Hey hey I wanna be a Poker Star
Hey hey I wanna be a Poker Star

I wanna be great like Hellmuth without the hassles
Hold the straight-flush cards that love to beat up Donk-holes
Sign a couple contracts
So I can get my buy-ins for free

(I have a Queens ‘a villa... Full-house)

I'm gonna address my Table
with the Greatest Cash-in
Get a front door turn card to the Broadway Smash-Hit
Gonna Play a Raise or Fold game that has to
boost My ROI with dead money for my +EV

(So how ya gonna do it?)

I'm gonna trade this life
For fortune and fame
I'd even cut my Losses
And change my Username

'Cause we all just wanna be big Poker Stars
‘Live’ in Casino houses flopping Nut-Flush draws,
The cards come easy and the flops come cheap
The Bankroll stays healthy cause we don't get beat
And we'll hang out in the coolest bars
In the VIP with the movie stars
Every good Hold’em Player's
Gonna wind up there
Every Railbird Hottie
with a Chip and a Chair..

And we'll High-Stakes in the private rooms
With the Hoyle’s dictionary
in today's who's who
Casino’s get you anything
with the Comp. and smile
Everybody wants a new dealer on speed dial
well..
Hey hey I wanna be a Poker Star

I'm gonna Play those cards
that offend the Experts
Gonna pop my All-Ins
from a Slow-Played open-ender
Get Head-up Players mis-reading all my calls
Check Raise 'em ALL-IN so I don't get 'em to Draw

Hey hey I wanna be a Poker Star
Hey hey I wanna be a Poker Star

~Enjoy, I had fun doing it!~

How about, That was a Crazy Game of Poker by O.A.R

Ohh myyyy
20 throw down in my fist of rage
and the man to my left has folded down
well johnny doubled up with a royal flush
I had three jacks and a pair of nines
my mind is turning - just two shots more
there's not much left to play
well then dude walks in black hat on top
What a mop, I'm lucky
It wasn't a county cop
cause I'm just runnin out of time

Who's up for game two
what to do
my wallet's gettin thin
and I just lost my watch last night
well I gotta problem
just one answer
gotta throw it all down
and kiss it goodbye
Yeah!

That was a crazy game of poker
(That was a crazy game of poker)
I lost it all
(I lost it all)
but someday I'll be back again
And I, never to fold.
(never to fold)

Who's up for game three
I can barely see the bourbon drowning next to me
And I just lost it all
well there's a man sittin next to me
Red, with smiling eyes
It's funny
I don't have no money tonight
yeaaaaaaaahhhhhhh

That was a crazy game of poker
(That was a crazy game of poker)
I lost it all
(I lost it all)
but someday I'll be back again
And I, never to fold.
(never to fold)

Bop bop bop...
I say now skittleedat dat,
Well how bout that?
I'm coming out the front never coming out the back

And I walked into the bar yesterday
Cause I had something to do, something to say
And Johnny walked in right behind me and I didn't turn around
Til I heard the sound of his feet falling on the ground
I looked over my shoulder and I saw a clown
And I said what'cha doin' in the bar tonight.

So I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said, how bout a revolution?
And he said right.
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah jah jah
Jahova!

And I said, what'cha looking at?
He hit me across the face with a bat
I grabbed my .45 and I said let's get out and go
So he opened the door and said do what you're here for
I said I'm wandering round the road four to four
And I said I been walking for about a thousand years.

And my feet are growing tired
My eyes a little wired
Don't know what to do unless I retire
And he just said let's play some crazy poker

So I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said, how bout a revolution?
And he said right.
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say die
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say die dah dah
Day day oh!

I said that, was the craziest game of poker that I ever saw
I said that, was the craziest game of poker that I ever saw
But I'm not gonna quit and I'm not gonna stop
Don't give a shit cause I got the drop
Johnny just got two eyes just like mine
And I'm feeling kinda funky, kinda fine

And I drank a bottle of whiskey, 'fore I came
Came to the bar to see what's the same
I saw my man named Johnny sittin' across the table from me

And to my left was a man, he had no chin
Didn't really think about starting to sin
The man to my right wasn't feeling kinda nice
He looked kinda mad and I felt bad
Beacuse I took his money last night it's kinda funny
But now I'm just struggling--
I need a honey-bunny.
I don't know what to say anymore
So I'm just gonna go out, anywho...

So I said Johnny whatcha doing tonight?
He looked at me with a face full of fright
And I said, how bout a revolution?
And he said right.
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah
I say of, you say a
I say revolution, and you say jah jah jah jahova
javhova, is watching over me...
Day day oh!

Dylan's 'Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts':

The festival was over, the boys were all plannin' for a fall,
The cabaret was quiet except for the drillin' in the wall.
The curfew had been lifted and the gamblin' wheel shut down,
Anyone with any sense had already left town.
He was standin' in the doorway lookin' like the Jack of Hearts.

He moved across the mirrored room, "Set it up for everyone," he said,
Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads.
Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin,
"Could you kindly tell me, friend, what time the show begins?"
Then he moved into the corner, face down like the Jack of Hearts.

Backstage the girls were playin' five-card stud by the stairs,
Lily had two queens, she was hopin' for a third to match her pair.
Outside the streets were fillin' up, the window was open wide,
A gentle breeze was blowin', you could feel it from inside.
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts.

Big Jim was no one's fool, he owned the town's only diamond mine,
He made his usual entrance lookin' so dandy and so fine.
With his bodyguards and silver cane and every hair in place,
He took whatever he wanted to and he laid it all to waste.
But his bodyguards and silver cane were no match for the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary combed her hair and took a carriage into town,
She slipped in through the side door lookin' like a queen without a crown.
She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear,
"Sorry, darlin', that I'm late," but he didn't seem to hear.
He was starin' into space over at the Jack of Hearts.

"I know I've seen that face before," Big Jim was thinkin' to himself,
"Maybe down in mexico or a picture up on somebody's shelf."
But then the crowd began to stamp their feet and the house lights did dim
And in the darkness of the room there was only Jim and him,
Starin' at the butterfly who just drew the Jack of Hearts.

Lily was a princess, she was fair-skinned and precious as a child,
She did whatever she had to do, she had that certain flash every time she smiled.
She'd come away from a broken home, had lots of strange affairs
With men in every walk of life which took her everywhere.
But she'd never met anyone quite like the Jack of Hearts.

The hangin' judge came in unnoticed and was being wined and dined,
The drillin' in the wall kept up but no one seemed to pay it any mind.
It was known all around that Lily had Jim's ring
And nothing would ever come between Lily and the king.
No, nothin' ever would except maybe the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary started drinkin' hard and seein' her reflection in the knife,
She was tired of the attention, tired of playin' the role of Big Jim's wife.
She had done a lot of bad things, even once tried suicide,
Was lookin' to do just one good deed before she died.
She was gazin' to the future, riding on the Jack of Hearts.

Lily washed her face, took her dress off and buried it away.
"Has your luck run out?" she laughed at him, "Well, I guess you must
have known it would someday.
Be careful not to touch the wall, there's a brand-new coat of paint,
I'm glad to see you're still alive, you're lookin' like a saint."
Down the hallway footsteps were comin' for the Jack of Hearts.

The backstage manager was pacing all around by his chair.
"There's something funny going on," he said, "I can just feel it in the air."
He went to get the hangin' judge, but the hangin' judge was drunk,
As the leading actor hurried by in the costume of a monk.
There was no actor anywhere better than the Jack of Hearts.

Lily's arms were locked around the man that she dearly loved to touch,
She forgot all about the man she couldn't stand who hounded her so much.
"I've missed you so," she said to him, and he felt she was sincere,
But just beyond the door he felt jealousy and fear.
Just another night in the life of the Jack of Hearts.

No one knew the circumstance but they say that it happened pretty quick,
The door to the dressing room burst open and a cold revolver clicked.
And Big Jim was standin' there, ya couldn't say surprised,
Rosemary right beside him, steady in her eyes.
She was with Big Jim but she was leanin' to the Jack of Hearts.

Two doors down the boys finally made it through the wall
And cleaned out the bank safe, it's said that they got off with quite a haul.
In the darkness by the riverbed they waited on the ground
For one more member who had business back in town.
But they couldn't go no further without the Jack of Hearts.

The next day was hangin' day, the sky was overcast and black,
Big Jim lay covered up, killed by a penknife in the back.
And Rosemary on the gallows, she didn't even blink,
The hangin' judge was sober, he hadn't had a drink.
The only person on the scene missin' was the Jack of Hearts.

The cabaret was empty now, a sign said, "Closed for repair,"
Lily had already taken all of the dye out of her hair.
She was thinkin' 'bout her father, who she very rarely saw,
Thinkin' 'bout Rosemary and thinkin' about the law.
But, most of all she was thinkin' 'bout the Jack of Hearts.

I voted for other and I'll post some lyrics, but I gotta say, the great poker songs aren't very well represented in your choices. No Loser, or Deal- Lyrics Robert Hunter, music Jerry Garcia. No Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts- Robert Zimmerman.;) No Me and My Incle- Papa John Phillips. And, my all time fave- Aces, Straights, and Flushes- Bruce U (Utah) Phillips.-as performed by the Reg'lar Guys;)

Refrain
Aces,Straights, and Flushes, that's the game my daddy played
If the gamblin' went 'til morning, that's how late my daddy stayed
He bought shoes for all us kids with the money that he made,
On those aces, straights and flushes, the game my daddy played

Now some folks called my daddy a no 'count gamblin' man
but he came home every mornin' with the money in his hand
There was chicken on the table, and the rent was always paid
from those aces straights and flushes, the game my daddy played

Refrain

now mama she ran off with some fast talkin' man
daddy took to gamblin just to feed our little clan
sometimes it was holdem and sometimes 7 stud
those aces strughts and flushes, they ran in daddy's blood

Refraun

Came the day my daddy, he played his biggest game
for the love of a woman and the honor of her name
When the smoke had cleared and the cards had all been played
my daddy gave up gamblin and took up the...trombone

one lasr refrain

The result I expected..
I put up the Generic Standards simply because there are many,
and even some I haven't heard of.
Which is the purpose of this Thread.
I want the Forum to participate, list the song, and post the
Lyrics so that there is some Prolific moments to relate with.
I am enjoying this and it is for this reason that I am certain
the rest of the Membership will get some solace in reading!
For months to come!

I can also be SURE that 'Other' will be the most popular!!
~Thanks for posting all the same!~
