I made a post awhile back talking about how I'd done coming back to poker. Well slowly but surely i'm still moving on up, and have set hard and fast goals regarding my bankroll. Happy to report I broke my 35 sng buy in goal today to move from the $10 sngs to the $20. (Turned $150 into just under $800 now :D. really looking forward to that $1000 mark!)

Thing is I'm doing so well at the $10s lately I almost don't want to change anything lol. (among other things I have a very long list of fishy frequent $10 sng players now on bodog and I do everything I can to follow them around the tables... yes i'm evil that way).

Anyway, title says it all. I'm almost being too cautious i think.

I also do better at Bodog than the other sites. I play the 10 player sit-n-gos and the top 5 cash. It's almost impossible not to cash if u know what yur doin. I plan to continue takin their money too.

I think only you could know if and when you're ready to move up but the rule for proper BR management would tell you that about 30 buy-in is anough to keep you safe at any level. At $20, that would be $600 so you could move there.

The other thing is that you should not be scared to move back down if you don't keep a good winning record at the higher level. Alot of people are afraid to move back as they see it as a sign of weekness, I see it as a sigh of maturity instead. Only people who know their limits will survive the journy.

If your crushing the $10 sng's why move up? Build that to a more comfortable cushion.

Your fishing license is only good at the $10 games for now.

Thanks for the replies, all valid points!

Thing is I used to play at the $50 sng levels when i was in college and did fairly well (and my game is better than it used to be...paid alot of bills in college playing).

Then the wonderfully altruistic and benevolent US government (just a bit of sarcasm there if you can't tell... DIAF YOU HYPOCRITES) caused a bunch of sites to shut down in the US including the 2 I used to play at. I panicked, took my money out and didn't play for a few years.

So this is my comeback! I want to get back up there but I am being very careful to not do anything too quickly.

on a totally unrelated note I may be taking a job in Europe soon which would be awesome for my poker career.

Take it slow and it all will pay off. Look at jesus Ferguson he made 15k starting at zero and it took him 18 months to do so. The game of poker is about patience and not jumping in over your head. I think you are more then likely a great player just do yourself a favor and grind out some more of them 10 dollar games. Then move up when your bankroll allows you to do so. Good luck taking everyone's money just don't take mine lol Unlucky79

Personally, I don't mind having 100x the buy in as my bankroll, even though a lot of people would find this to be "overly safe". ChuckTs points out that 1% really isn't that much "over-rolled" here.

Yeah this is a good point AG. I think the reason I'm being cautious about it is that the 35 buy in limit i decided on for myself earlier just seems... like not enough now that I'm there. 100 at least right now seems...a little overcautious to me but on the other hand it certainly would provide a very nice comfort level.

Here's what I think I'm going to do since as you see earlier I went ahead and played a couple $20s is I'll go ahead and try $20s but be willing to jump back down to $10 fairly quickly if things go south too fast. I think what I might try is to bump up my buy in requirement for each buy in jump. So to go $20 to $30 I think I'll set my minimum to 50 buy ins, if not higher.

I like your idea a lot. Also, being willing to move down (some people find it very hard) can make your br requirements on the smaller side. So, with being over-rolled AND willing to move down, I think it's safe to say we will never see you broke-- congratulations on being a winning player :D !
