I was wondering what people thought the softest poker variant is right now. I know that holdem is the most popular and thus has the biggest player base which means it likely also has the most fish playing. However, given the increased knowledge players have on holdem relative to other variants based on its popularity, it seems logical that the average holdem player is pretty good compared to other poker variants.

Omaha seems to be the best contender to holdem in popularity. However, since it is not very popular compared to holdem, it seems that there are fewer knowledgable omaha players by which I mean that the average holdem player has a greater knowledge of holdem compared to the average omaha player on omaha. Anyone have any opinions on this?

I think Omaha has good potential to remain soft in the long run because it is more of an action game. New players that have more gamble in them will be drawn the Omaha.

I've been thinking about learning another variant for a while. Been playing NLHE only for almost 4 years. I sort of enjoy the evolution of the game though. I'm glad the average player is better. I think it is what will end up making poker a legitimate sport: that it is very difficult to be world class and a rare skill set.

I personally think all of the variants are soft at the lower levels. But if you're looking for a small extremely soft player pool, just find a Stud, Razz or Badugi game. Granted, you have to understand how to play those games effectively, but they are so soft. Probably half the players don't understand

Poker is not and should never be considered a sport, it is a game.

The lemmings know hold'em, so that is where you will find most of the suckers. Razz and Mixgames are hard to fill online, but you will see some bad play once in a while. Don't have enough mixgame experience to exploit though. :)

Stud 100 percent. Easy to play as the rules for winning are identical to Holdem. If you already know how to calculate outs then stud is a really easy game.

Extremely easy. I think what makes Stud the most fun is when you notice that someone is only looking at his own cards. You have 4 to a flush showing with an Ace and King and they have a QJTxo showing and still digging for the card that is most likely still going to lose them the hand.
