I've noticed that lately i've been much more unlikely to slow play a hand. A couple of my friends that i play with have said that they feel this is not correct. If i've flopped say a low straight (6high). I do all i can to take the pot down right now. I don't think there is anything wrong with this. If the pot is big enough you should just take the pot down. I don't like the slow play. it's giving out's to other players. What do you think about the slow play?
how often do you do it?
For the sake of argument you do not have the stone cold nuts! no ace high fush ect.... I'm talking about flopped sets, low flushes.

I know what you mean. Why slow play and give them a chance to suck out on you? Of course i slow play when i have the stone cold nuts, and slow play depending on the situation otherwise. Say you hit a set on the flop. If there is a flush/straight draw on the board, then take the pot down before someone draws out on you. If the board looks like there are no draws, i seem to slow play thos alot more.

Ofcourse your correct in what you say about slow playing certain hands i.e two pair or any hand against a possible flush/straight.I feel that attacking the position your in is the best way to go about things but however i am definetly guilty off slow playing sets for some reason. Many times i,ve sat and prayed that another card of a certain suit would,nt hit because you want the others to catch their two pair and so get the most from the pot. This is a shocking way to play but somehow i can,t get away from doing it and most of my best wins in poker have come from being more agressive at the right times. To be totaly honest i know i have developed many bad habbits playing no limit holdem thats its getting pretty serious.

The only times you should slow play is if you have the nuts or you have a high percentage of winning. Other than that, bet or raise big. Don't get rivered!

Personally, when playing online, I very seldom slowplay myself now (like you, I used to). I just find that people are too loose. This means: (a) if I play aggressive and try to take down the pot I end up getting action anyway, and (b) if I don't, I get too many people following me to the turn/river and get sucked out too often to be profitable.

So yeah, I think it depends on your cards and your opponents. If you have the stone cold nuts, do whatever you think will make your opponents put the most in the pot. If you're playing against tight players, slowplay more; loose, slowplay less.

Fair comment though...

I try to slowplay only when I have made my hand. Or might just wait for them to bet on me and check raise all in. That way at least I get something for my nice hand.

If my hand is unbeatable I will always slowplay
