Personally, when playing online, I very seldom slowplay myself now (like you, I used to). I just find that people are too loose. This means: (a) if I play aggressive and try to take down the pot I end up getting action anyway, and (b) if I don't, I get too many people following me to the turn/river and get sucked out too often to be profitable.
So yeah, I think it depends on your cards and your opponents. If you have the stone cold nuts, do whatever you think will make your opponents put the most in the pot. If you're playing against tight players, slowplay more; loose, slowplay less.
