Skype poker group

I know its been posted and Im sure some of you use it but Id like to star a skype poker group for sweating and quality poker discussion to help try to better everyones game. If your interested my skype is Mad_Mike724. Thanks all!

I am confused. Isn`t that what CC is here for ? Why Skype ?

Surely all that accomplishes is to restrict the conversation to those of us who use Skype, when it could just as easily take place here on the open forum and include everone.

yeah but I thought it would be a nice extension to the forum discussion.

That may apply to the "discussion" part. But you can't sweat on CC. Freak and I have used it on a few occassions and it works great. Neither of us are experts, but it helps to get a 2nd opinion as a hand is happening. If we stumble upon an interesting situation, we would most likely post it here.

And don't worry, we steer plenty clear of collusion. Collusion sucks.

Actually, what you are calling "sweating" goes beyond what I understand that term to be (railing, or providing support as a spectator/observer). Discussing a hand in play with anyone else and taking action based on that is probably against the rules for your cardroom.

I'll pick on pokerstars, since I have their page handy:

Poker is an individual (not a team) game. Any action or chat intended to help another player is unethical and is prohibited. Unethical play, such as soft-play and chip dumping, may result in penalties, including seizure of funds from the offender's account and/or termination of the account.

What you are describing may be in violation of this rule.

You may be correct if 2 players are seated at the same table. But if one is playing at the table and the other is not, this has been done throughout history, both live and online. People pay poker coaches to do this. Jennifer Harman and Marco Traniello fell in love doing this live. He would look over her shoulder as she played and learned to play that way. (But he finally had to stop when his reactions started giving her hands away.)

Thanks for your concern, but "sweating" is a teaching tool that is widely-accepted in the poker community.

I love the idea of building up a network of players. Its not that the forum isn't enough but it would be awsome to have a team which would help you find errors in your game as long as you do the same for them. I find the forum to be a bit all over the place in terms of a communication tool.

Is it illegal to sweat if you pay a fraction of the buy-in cost?

Even if you arent playing at the time, talking poker and going over HH's with other people is always helpful. Yes, CC is here for this and you can post and get responses. But it is also helpful when you can chat with someone about a hand or anything poker related, even if it isnt while they are "sweating" you. Lots of pros learned this way and many other people talk over AIM or other IMs. I chat with MadMike and its a great thing. If people dont want to get involved then I believe its your loss

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't Skype a telephonic tool whereby people talk to each other as opposed to a messageboard whereby communication is done by typing?

If that's the case, it's much easier to talk than to type.

Your not separating or branching off. You are merely chatting with people without having to wait for responses. Its probably one of the most useful and helpful tools for a poker player

HUH? It's just Skype. You use it to talk while you play. You can't post on CC about every hand you play while you are playing. That would be fruitless.

Agreed

It sounds to me like a great idea. You can still post in the forums. It would likely be something that would open up more discussions in the forum as people expound on conversations that were had via skype at an earlier time.

What would be the downside to having real time poker chat going on? Undoubtedly people would continue to post...most likely while speaking live as well. :top:

As for collusion, it doesn't seem as though anyone here would bring it there. There is nothing wrong with the idea of being able to get real time help with a tough call. A network of people coming together to help each other play a better game is what this place seems to be about. Wouldn't live chat groups only extend that network?

Also, skype is free. What's there to lose in trying it out? Find it's something you don't like, it's certainly one of those easy to remove programs.

Side note: Ventrilo is a far better program for RT chat in my opinion. I do believe you actually have to set up a ventrilo server in order to be able to host with vent, though.
