Its definitely abit of both and each hand you play requires more of one than the other...the key is to know how to manage both. Skill is more important thou coz luck will only get u so far.
You need a little luck to get the cards to start with. But, then what to do with them is the skill part.
All in with Pocket A's will usually net you about 20 bucks in blind money. Playing them right can put someone out of the game and you get all thier chips. Then again, playing them wrong can put you out of the game.
You got to know when to hold em, know when to fold la la la :thrasher:
If it is luck, then why do you always see the same 15-20 people at the final table ?If it is all skill then explain Chris Moneymaker.... the chicken or the egg ?????
Poker is definitely a combination of both skill and luck. There is no way you can win if you do not get lucky. You may be able to get good cards preflop, but who is to say the cards will come out on the flop so that part is definitely lucky. The skill in poker is the way u play the hand. Knowing when to bet and when to check and when to fold is skill.
Its definitely a combination of both. Bad players will get lucky on the flop but the majoirty of the time they will get KO'd because they dont want to put down what they think is a good hand.
Good players will fold good cards, knowing they will prob lose. Yet at times good players bet heavy with pcoket 5's or something crazy and yes they may flop a set or FH but you often find when they bet they are lucky! Strange but true
Its down to instinct, skill and luck.....and fearlesness!
:ridinghor In California, poker is legal. Why??? The lawmakers considered Poker a game of skill. Period. It's the same reason why ESPN shows the wsop. Poker, like all the other sports that ESPN covers, is a game of skill and talent. Sure, sometimes it appears that the game is just luck, but it not true. Poker has draws, and people mistake these draws for luck. Especially when that draw happens on the river, to give you a bad beat. So to answer, in poker skill is better than luck. If you want to gamble with cards...go play blackjack.
Of course there is a lot of skill involved in poker however there is a lot of luck involved as well. Thats what makes the game so interesting and thats why any person has an equal chance to win the world series each year.
It is mostly skill to get you positioned where you need to be to win but then the luck actually decides wheter or not you will get the cards dealt to you to make your hand.
If will be a batle LUCK v SKILL i'm sure th luck will win, because must be bad luck to not having luck... If the batle is Luck v xxx, and Skill v xxx i think the Skill will win more than the luck...
I think that the first few hands when people usually go all in are the ones that involve the most luck. But then the lucky people who amass the huge chip leads then have a big advantage as they can just use their chips to steal the pot, so luck is very important to winning a tournament.
