If you had enough chips to where you knew you could sit out and make it to the final table, would you do it? and why can you sit out online and when you sit out live they take your chips off the table if you don't come back?

Depending on how much the stakes were and how many people were left. If you're stack is high enough to the point where you could sit out and still make the final table, you may as well just stay and play conservative.

...and why can you sit out online and when you sit out live they take your chips off the table if you don't come back?

If we're talking about tournaments, then live in most cases I believe your chips will be left on the table because your entry fee has been paid and your stack needs to pay blinds, regardless of whether you're in the seat or not.

Think of all the times over the years we've seen wsop footage of Phil Hellmuth's starting stack sitting in front of an empty chair, being blinded out while it waits for him to make his big entrance. Or those sad picture updates PokerNews used to do of Vinny Vinh's empty chair cashing in tournaments...

The live game situation where the casino will take your chips off the table is in a cash game - for security, plus they'll want to free up the seat so someone else can use it and start generating rake for them.

I've been to a casino where they take the chips off in a tournament.

I think you guys may be talking about the same thing. If you are in a live tourney and get up from your seat, they will take blinds and antes from your stack and deal you in. Your blinds and antes will not be skipped just because you are not sitting at the table.

In some tournaments, they put out full stacks at all the seats at the beginning of the tourney and will take the blinds from the empty seats until the late registration deadline passes. Those who late register are assigned to a seat and may not get a full stack, depending on if their stack has already been forced to pay any blinds. Once the late registration deadline passes, then they will remove all the dead stacks from play.

To answer your question, I wouyld not sit out just because I had enough to make it to the final table. Your goal should not be to just make it to the final table. Now if I got a huge win and had the chip lead and felt I needed a break just to try to calm myself down and refocus, I think taking a self-induced break is fine.

I would most likely get up and just go for a walk, go to the bathroom, etc., to try to clear my head and then get back after a few minutes.

I see it all the time but I would not sit out regardless of how many chips I have, even if I knew I would make the final table, unless it was some sort of emergency.

^ this is an important exception, and an example of when a stack might actually be removed from play.

But if a player has paid the tournament entry fee, played some hands and then just gotten up from the table (or, say, no returned for the next day in a multi-day event) under normal circumstances I can't think of any reason why a stack would be removed from play. There's always a chance the player could come back, or that their empty chair could cash / move up the payout ladder and even if they're definitely not coming back, other players should be entitled to win those chips.

That's not to say that some live casinos won't do it. But they're wrong to do it IMO.

Well why would you sit out instead of playing very tight. You may lose some very strong hands. For me, I won't sit out even if I have a large stack to make it to the final table, I'd rather stay and wait and play some hands if they're good/strong.

I prefer live! I think it's much more exciting!
But online it's more comfortable. If you loose, just register in another

I don't know where you are playing live but if you sit out in a tournament live at all the places I have played they blind you off in turn. If you make it to day two, three or whatever and don't show up the dealer opens your bagged chips and pulls out a small pile and takes your blinds from that and repeats until your chips are gone or you show up.

In re-entry tournaments if a seat is in the system as registered at the start they will sit the stack out and blind it off, if the seat is not in the system as registered then they will pull back the stack and wait until a person registers or re-enters and shows up at the table with their entry ticket and they suffer no loss of blinds or antes and receive a full stack this is in general how it goes live. I know their are exceptions and many tournament variations but the overwhelming majority of the time live chips of players are blinded off in turn not removed as a whole from play.

You would be better off in the long run, sitting through these bad hands and learning more about how to balance your stack as you go. Some of these situations also end well & can see you in a good position once the final table has been astablished.

Why do this. In this position, its where the strong get stronger and the weak get weaker. Punish ones just waiting for top 6 hands. You will know when they get it. You can chip up huge as the blinds and antes are big at these levels. Weak play IMO. Most of the money is 1-3rd.

Just observe table dynamic and exploit table weakness,no need to sit out.
