If we're talking about tournaments, then live in most cases I believe your chips will
be left on the table because your entry fee has been paid and your stack needs to pay blinds, regardless of whether you're in the seat or not.
Think of all the times over the years we've seen WSOP
footage of Phil Hellmuth's starting stack sitting in front of an empty chair, being blinded out while it waits for him to make his big entrance. Or those sad picture updates PokerNews used to do of Vinny Vinh's empty chair cashing in tournaments...
The live game situation where the casino will
take your chips off the table is in a cash game - for security, plus they'll want to free up the seat so someone else can use it and start generating rake for them.
