Just venting...

I've been sick for about 4 days and haven't been able to make it to the local poker room. Sucks!!

I was going to go yesterday and today, but I'm still not 100% and I know I won't be able to maintain full focus for too long.

How do you guys handle "sick time?" I'm trying to tell myself that the break will be beneficial...

Do exactly what your doing, take time off. If your really worried about poker, then try watching some videos, reading books/forums about poker.

I agree with this. You don't need to go play when you don't feel well. It is the same as playing when you are tired or drunk. You are not going to be able to play to the best of your ability. I played hung over a couple of times and my results were always bad. I would say to take the time to read a book and refine your game. If that just makes you want to play more then find something else to do that doesn't make you think about poker.

In addition to not playing your best, it's also the right thing to do to keep your illness-causing germs at home. I feel the same way about people coming to the office sick --- it's not fair to the rest of us. If you're stick, stay home.

I hope you feel better soon.

yea just take a few days off, do some ground work, watch some training videos on youtube or any other source

they say the best form of learning is to write down the video's just as if your in a lesson.

the amount of information you absorb is far greater and is more likely to stay with you

Easy to stay away live... The trick is to stay off the online sites as well since your bound to make more errors than not... Since i'm playing the bottom stakes I don't have the luxury to go down a few stakes and play while sick.

Anyways for now i'm winning 1c 2c and loving it :) and took time off and spent that time doing other things like spending time with the family and playing playstation 3 games/movies.

Come back winning strong where I picked up so no damage done... Just hoping when I move stakes again I end up going up and not having to fall back down again.

I agree with everything said above. Why add BR injury to illness? Poker's highly competitive and one step back, two steps forward is tuff enough even while at your best. It seems nutzso to go in feeling disadvantaged just to get the fix. Vids, books etc. are all there to enlighten, motivate and stimulate without the cost of losing $$$. Plus the social obligation of not spreading those germs seems clear. If you must play, why not just dyck around for paltry stakes online?

I returned to the tables today and had a really good session. Felt refreshed for sure.

Also, I came across perhaps the most puzzling player I've ever played with. He wouldn't raise preflop ever. In a multiway pot, the flop would come Ace high rainbow, everyone checks. Turn was a brick - everyone checks. River was nothing game-changing - everyone checks. The guy rolls over AK and takes the $8 pot. It happened over and over again. He'd limp with a premium hand, hit strongly, and either check down or call down. I honestly couldn't figure out what was happening. My only theory was that he was sitting there in an attempt to get a piece of the bad beat jackpot or high-hand promotion.

use your sick time as vacation. rest drink lots of fluids and play checkers. The time away will act as refresher for your skills.
