Hey everyone!!!

I was coming home from the mall tday and i poped into a used books store and started to browse around. I came across a couple good poker books then came up with an idea. I would like to hear about your favorite books you've read, or videos you've watch, whether its a movie or a lesson, articles you've really enjoyed or strategic lesson or forum posts that you would like to share with others.

Books that i have read are-
Texas Hold-Em for Dummies- really loved this book. its very educational and would reccomend it for any beginner who is wanting to take poker serious and expand their knowledge on the game.

Hold-Em Wisdom for All Players By Daniel Negreanu - This was my first poker book that i had read. i wish i woulda read the other one 1st but i own it so i can always go back and use all the usefull tips. There is alot of helpfull tips and a really great book for ne one looking to learn. whether its live play or online a great book for begginers and advanced players.

Ive also aquired- Phill Gordans Little Gold Book Of Advanced Lessons. i never started this one yet, i still have a little bit to finish in the above 2, by finish i basically mean understand thoroughly how to use guides in them properly and proficiently in my game.Purchased online poker By Doyle Brunson, and Winning Poker for The Serious Player at chapters a little while back but never got a chance to start these yet.
Went to the library a few times and found some really good books, this was the first one i read from there, Texas Hold-em for Winners, and tday i just got The Super System from there which just blew my mind. So excited when i had seen that i just had to get it hands down one of the best poker books out.
Oh and also bought Maran Illustrated Poker, which kinda reminds me of being back in school with a text book but not the boring subjects and tyring lectures of all our most boring teachers LOL. I started a nice little poker collection and am really enjoying all the knowledge that i have aquired from reading lately, and much more to come.

For movies, i was playing poker 1 night and my gf told me "Chris look at this!!!" i basically just ignored her and kept grinding. later that night i asked what was so important and she showed me the movie Rounders. OMG!!! where do i start. The best poker movie or what!!!! i just loved it kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. I would love to come across somemore movies like that. Also have seen Casino, and 21 but those are basically just gambling but really wiked as well.

I dont have any online videos or articles to post yet but as soon as i come across anything good that i would love to share and get some feed back on i am sure going to post it here. So here's a little bit of what i have done since my poker start back in August 2012, what have you got to share????
Pls Post links to any videos or articles i would love to see what u have to say :)

So ill thank you all for what a great experience i am having here and can't wait to see the feedback from this.
Oh, and if someone has allready posted something uve read or watch dont be shy to post it again because i wanna hear about you and what things your poker Hobbies have brought your way.
Thanks Guys :) i think that this is going to bea very great discussion!!!

Texas Hold-Em for Dummies is kinda crap, I've read it. Phil Gordons Little Green Book and Blackrains79 Crushing the microstakes the best books so far. Could use some good videos.

I see you've already gotten super system....like you said it really blew my mind too. I'm in the same boat as you as far as wondering what other books have helped....I've always wondered how Harringtons books were so I'll definitely check those out. I've never really looked into any that were specifically written for the online genre but since that's where all my playing is done now that may be something else I need to look at.

Not too sure what you're asking for on here.
I believe it's definitely not allowed to share books on here (ie. e-books) but obviously totally fine to share reviews on what books you've read.
As far as 'videos' go. Do you mean movies & documentaries? (< pretty sure you can find quite a few on YouTube). When most suggest 'videos' they're referring to training videos (or vids. of coaches doing vids.) < vids. one would normally have to pay a membership in order to have access to view them.

There are a bunch of other threads on here as far as 'books' go you might want to check out.
Also, a suggestion (re: books), you'd be able to pick up the Harrington On Holdem books from library. If your branch doesn't carry them, get them to put in an inter-library book loan for you (they order the book(s) in from another library, you get to keep them out for 2wks.). At one point I ordered up at least a couple of dozen poker books in this manner.
Another 'tip' for you. Don't bother with Vol.3 of the HOH series. It's just not worth the time imo.

I could give you plenty of other suggestions on books (I've easily read over 50 & have at least 20 still on my book shelf). If you could be specific with what you're looking for I'll write what I'd recommend for reading. (ie. MTT, SNG, mixed games, PLO, cashgames, live tourneys (casino low buyin style), etc. etc.

The harrington series are very good, i've read his vol 1 twice over the last month. it is a big bag, explains all the usual stuff but the way the book puts you in a situation asks what you should do then explains the correct play is something you would only find on an online quiz. It really makes you think about what you've read and forces you to learn it. I read it once straight through, the second time i actually thought through every hand example. Very good for newish players to put all the concepts into play without sitting at a table.
I've not read the other two but i'm guessing if he could find more to write then they are probably worth the money too. I've got them, just thought i'd work through the first one till i fully understood it all. I've also heard doyle brunsons super system is priceless, possibly next on my list of reads once i've finished with harrington.

Oh no, PO!?!?!

Vol 3 is not a reading book as much as it is a process. It's intent is to give you practice thinking through hands (with Harrington holding your hand along the way - Get it? Harrington on Hold'em with Hands - har har).

Anyway - I have this one on my night stand and it has value of being able to go through a hand of hold 'em with Harrington's comments and insight. So it's not like I ever read a paragraph in it got something explain, but it was not without Aha moments. Definitely one where you have to do the thinking and figure out what you're learning and not being handed to you. Basically if you have read Harrington's others you know the end of the chapter has a few practice/review hands to go through - that's the entirety of this book. Perfect for those times you don't feel up to reading a whole chapter but would like a little "practice".

Kind of like Gordon's Blue Book - but way more thoughtful.

Hey i just want to use this thread so members can share there experience they have had with either books or whatever, (like in my title) no so much looking for suggestions but i want to hear everyone elces time theve had with a sertain source and if theyd like to share it with the community so that they might be able to shaer the experience and gain from others ideas.
I think this will give me a great way to see how other players have used there time to gain info or enjoyed spending time with there movies or great articles , whatever you guys have on your mind.
ive had some great feedback now and am loving all of it. cant wait to hear back from everyone.

And if u have came across something elce down the road pls come back and share this is hopefully going to be nice and usefull for everyone who just wants to talk and share a lilbit of whats on there mind from after there experiences with all the great sources out there. Thanks for the question i Hope this makes it clearer for others so then they will want to post as to b4 mayb being unsure and not knowing exactly what i had ment :)

Hey Yah i heard there a great series also. I came across a download the other day and it had 65 Poker Books all in one file. Prolbly the best thing that ive came across ina long time. I was just in search of some of the old wsop seasons and happend to stumble upon that.
After seeing your positive feedback, and Poker Orifice its definitly one i am looking forward to cheking out his series. And About the Super System... WOW am i ever greatfull to have came across that at the Library the other day. with the little time ive had it ive gained so much info and i am just thriving off every word. I recomend that to all players. New, Advanced , and even Veteran. Just a must have for any avid poker player. wether your going to specialize on 1 game or want to learn them all its just amazing. Great choice in making this your next book man. Even if i were to have read it all b4 i returned it i am no matter what buying myself a copy of that.
and again thyanks about the Harrington Info i think i was luky enough to get all 3 volumes in my download so once i am done with The SS and have to return It :( just going to finish one other (couple chapters left) and begin my new journy through the harrington series :).

You know you could actually just buy a copy of that book from the author's website. Lending sounds like piracy to me which I doubt CC approves of. I have actually heard that the author is willing to give discounts sometimes if you just contact him or even give it away for free if you are willing to write a review. What are all these positive reviews you speak of by the way? I heard it sucks! :D

p.s., I am the author by the way ;)

So you figure it's the bomb cuz he said so?
I didn't say it wasn't worth getting without good reason >> it's not worth it! (at all imo). You could put time spent reading to much better sources than wasting time with HOH Vol.3. That is an opinion & it is mine but it is based on having read far, far better books than HOH Vol.3. It's old. It's outdated. Not worth bothering with.
I've got dozens of books sitting on my shelf. I wouldn't pick up HOH Vol.3 unless you paid me for the time I spent reading it. (& I do still pick up books). (ie. the Winning Poker Tournaments - One Hand At A Time series is a gazillion times better than HOH... but I do suggest reading Vol.1 & 2 so you can get a 'basic' foundation in which to work from.).
My analogy of HOH Vol.3. (if you've already studied 1 & 2) > if your goal is to ride a bike, why spend more time with training wheels on once you've learned how to keep your balance?

That is an opinion & it is mine but it is based on having read far, far better books than HOH Vol.3. It's old. It's outdated.

In all fairness to Hanagis, I do not disagree with this, but like I said - it's really not a book for conventional reading - it's just a break down of assorted hands.

BUT if you are still trying to nail down how to approach hands, how to think about hands, how to process hands this book can help. It's subtitle is "VOL III: THE WORKBOOK". It is not going to tell you how ala 'here's how it's done', but it provides a template by going through many different real life hands (some played right, some played wrong). It will not work without your own creativity and detective work and some reading between the lines. It is not 'do this', but rather 'I see what he's doing there, I'm going to have to incorporate that' or even 'what a bunch of malarkey'.

But there are times where you just want meat and potatoes. When I started going through Vol 1 and 2 I hated those review hands at the end of each chapter. They got in the way of me learning (so I thought) what I was there for.
If that's where you are at - this book is definitely not for you. It's not a cover to cover sit down and read - it's a "I've got 15 minutes, I think I'll go through a hand." Make it a 'hand of the week' thing and you'll be through it in a year.

So no, this 'book' does not make my top ten list - but I cannot dismiss it as without any value.

Thanks apreciate it.
