Oh I know that, 5/10c blinds aren't my idea of a replacement for a job, more like something I have fun doing, and the profit's just a bonus :)

Although since I'm in college, it certainly helps for spending money and book money, and since I also play baseball and have to fit in studying and baseball, this "job" is extremely flexible. I don't know any other job that I could find where I could work anywhere from 2 hours to 40 hours per week (although I would never go as high as 40 along with classes) and work whenever I want.

Although I deposited $100 and once that number hits $500 I'm going to try to move up a level to 10/25c and see how it goes there. I'm hoping to follow good BR management and gradually move up. Many times I've been tempted to just deposit more and move up, but playing at these stakes has really helped me and is very important. I'm learning the importance of grinding it out rather than going for shots and making bad calls that could possibly be profitable one time but aren't in the long term. Currently I'm shooting for hitting $500 by 11/21 which is when I go home for Thanksgiving break.

My profit as of now is $6.22 per hour. 2 summers ago I was making $7 per hour although I worked at a batting cage and with the job I was given unlimited hitting while there were no customers, a perk that was probably more valuable than the paycheck. And last summer I worked as an umpire for youth baseball games, and while the pay was amazing on an hourly basis (~$50 per game, they lasted from 2 to 2 and a half hours), we only had a few games per week and the season only lasts the first half of the summer. If I can continue to show a decent profit and move up to 25/50c or possibly higher (still following proper BRM, so I should have $1,000 before I move up to that), I could have a decent side job for the summer, although I don't know how my parents would react to it. They're fine with me playing live, and they know I make a profit, but they see it as just a hobby, and a lot of luck, nothing to depend on for a paycheck. But I don't think they know I play online and would probably want me to get a real job at least the second half of the summer when I'm not umpiring. Guess I'll see what happens. I've still got a lot of things to work on before I can consider poker even a solid second income.

I'm by no means amazing at poker, but I know how to beat 5/10c as shown by the steady increase (with the usual fluctuations of good runs and bad runs) of the graph and I'm definitely better than average. I still got slaughtered in the CC buy-in events I've done. I'll probably start playing in those again when I get a big enough BR, because I think even if I
lose money in those, in the long run I'll get better playing against better players and examining the hands. I certainly learned something the first one. The usual tactics I use in 5/10c don't work against better players. I still remember making a perfect read, making a play that would work 99% at 5/10c, re-raising hard when I have them on second pair, and then getting called down because they actually had a read on me. It's tougher playing against people who also play the people rather than just the cards, but again, that's how I'll get better. That was the first time I've ever played in a poker game where I actually felt I was outmatched in terms of poker skill (well first time besides when I was first learning the rules).

NL.

And nice graph, although it would be a bit better if you didn't cut it off where you did at the bottom. But I'm sure you had to make it so it would still show the actual graph ;)

zach,
How do you tend to minimize your down swings? You have many on there but not any that appear to be caused by runs of tilt or anything like that. If you get a run of bad luck or some bad beats, do you tend to call it quits or since you are 4 tabling, it doesn't affect you as much?

This thread is a couple years old and you're replying to it? Are you drunk? Then again, I just replied to your reply...

Well considering zach's explosion in popularity as Umbrella Man, perhaps people are looking back on where he started for inspiration.

Very nice graph. Keep it up. You might want to consider just taking out a 5 dollar buy in and try out 25nl just for fun. If you lose it you lose it no big deal just dont try again until much later.

Yeah I have noticed a few umbrella men hanging around this forum of late. Zachvac being one, KingCurtis being another and someone else who I can't recall. Is this an inside joke or something???

Um, if you look at the date that this thread was started you will see that it is getting close to 2 years old. Zach has moved up the levels and now plays much higher limits, either 200NL or 400NL if I am not mistaken.

It's actually a real picture of me. I think a mod changed my avatar and then some random people started using it too, probably because I'm just as sexy as my graph(s) and they're jealous :p.
