Hi guys, my friend bought a chipset

It contains 600 chips. We usually play 5 people, so we have devided the chips like this :
White 10
Red 20
Blue 30
Green 50
Black 100
That way everyone gets 3300 chips. Now i wana buy a set of chips that has 1000 chips
they have the values
White 1
Red 5
Green 25
Blue 50
Black 100 Printed on them.

My question is, how many poker chips do you guys use to play your home games, what values you set to them and would 1600 chips be too much to spread between 6-7 people in a home game ?

Updated Feb 2018:

We have an awesome resource for helping to determine chip values - and everything else you need to consider when planning a home poker game:

It even includes this very handy checklist:

Good luck with your game!

Your original breakdown is crap. As a general rule each chip should be at 4 or 5 times the next lower denom. Example: 5, 25, 100, 500. It makes little sense to have for example both a 25 an 50 chip because you can just use 2 25s instead of 1 50.

The link that Stu posted is an excellent resource and if you use it to plan your tournament needs correctly it will save you $$ when you make your chip purchase.
