maybe it's just me being competitive but i'd play the game seriously because i want to win. i'd then lend the friend the money he needs and assume i'll never get it back.

Letting someone win(cause allegedly (s)he needs win more) is loser talk
That's why it's understandable not to do it even against your relatives etc

I find it easier to annihilate friends over enemies.

They'll be fine with it since dinner and drinks are on me.

And I get to rub it in until my next win.

My thoughts exactly. I'd play to win the trophy and just gave them the money if they were a friend.
