I've started this thread to discuss playing serious poker as opposed to all the donkeys that cludder the poker rooms.

I know that they will always be around, it's sad that they can not take the game seriously when they are playing, I believe that they cause more harm then what they realize. You always hear the same excuse from a donk, it's only a freeroll! or it's only a dollar, well that is right, but most players out there are trying to play a serious game of poker, and are being cheated out of that opportunity because some donk is playing lottery poker with any two cards hoping for a quick double or triple up.

Now you know, if a donk was in a real money tourney game that cost them 300.00 to 500.00 to enter they wouldn't play like that, I don't think any online donk would ever play in a live money tourney, just for the plain simple fact that they wouldn't know how to play without going all in every hand.

Just my thoughts...

I agree with Olives 100%. People play just as stupid in the $300/$600 dollar tables as the .01/.02 cent tables. Just because its for more money doesnt mean people play any better.

I get a kick out of people complaining about retarted poker players and how they should stay away from poker. The reality is you want all the retarted poker players at your table. It's called EASY MONEY!! Sure if I go all in with aces and someone calls with nothing I will lose sometimes but the MAJORITY of the time I will be victories.

SO IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE LOOSE CALLS PLEASE COME TO MY TABLE AND IF YOU WIN EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE....I PROMISE NOT TO CALL YOU A DONK.

additionally... If everyone was awesome, it wouldn't be much fun playing as you would have to play flawlessly all day every day as well as catching the nuts... alot.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there donks at all stakes?

And I figure if you can't take money off donks in the long run, then you're not the poker player you think you are

If everybody played perfect poker it would be overall -EV because of the rake. Might as well play roulette.

People play the way they play; that's poker. If you came across Gus Hanseb, or the Grinder, just as two examples, in an online setting where they were anonymous, you'd probably come away raging about the donk play. cause they beat your AK out of a big pot with rags. That's poker. They have a style that works for them, apparantly better than yours works for you. So who has the long floppy ears REALLY?

Oz is right. Call them whatever you want, but there are good, bad, loose, tight, lottery, bingo, etc players at every level. Tons of poker players today, live AND online, have more money than brains.

wsop Main Event is even a good example. $10,000 buy-in and in 2006 when they all started together, 2/3 were gone by the end of the first day. Was it because they all played 'real' poker?

And what is 'real' poker? It's not my style to lotto off my chips, but poker is a game of playing your own cards and money any way that you desire. They are both 'yours' until you lose your chips and chair. And if you lose your chips, there's always a re-buy, right. Why do they have re-buys? Is it because you're so good or so lucky that you have the comfort zone of the re-buy period and no one uses it?

If every table was played by skill alone, and skill won every hand, they would stop calling it 'gambling'. Always keep in mind, the average to poor poker player provides a source of tremendous income for the B&M casinos, the online cardroom operators, and the good players.

man i feel ya guy, but im going to haft to agree with the comments on this one,but i would like you to know dont bow down or tuck your tail, on the way you feel about things at this time in your life, yea it sux losing to scraps, but they are truly gambling against the odds, that we have been trained to understand ,it not change at any level of poker ,hell ! watch a game on t.v. your see it their also, without it, poker would'nt really be poker, if ya thing about it,and if you are looking for a certain stlye of poker their are some verry small league game to be found out their that bassically they let the best hand win MOST of the TIME, THAT IS,BUT THAT GETS BORING TO ME. just like any thing else though, look hard enoughf and your find what you looking for. A freeroll, jesus! they take so long ,heck why not try to come up quick, and start putting pressure on smaller stacks stealing the blinds, STAY OUT OF THE WAY OF BIGGER STACKS-unless you have a premiem hand, looking for a double up, after the first hour you your self can start to buy, you have been stealing blinds all along if a short stack reraises ya you know to dump if not have nuttin, right? when you make it to final table and had a great time doing it, congrats!!but get off the tight play when down to 3 players, chip value much more inportant ,than hand value , and if raised a little heads up and not hurt your stack that much CALL or you might get blinded out.gl bro

they add value to prizemoney pools if you're patient. today I played in a $100,000 tourney on titan, and only played half a dozen hand to make it close to the money.
i then, of course, put on my donkey head and went all in with aces, only to be beaten by 3 kings. the stupidist thing i have ever done and hopefully the anger i felt makes me learn the lesson.
which brings me back to my first sentence, in that with patience the better players will be carving up the spoils.

i'm certainly no expert, but i feel I can outlast a big number of those players who just cant wait to double up.

as Kramer says, it's all about levels....

QFT

The more fish/whales/donkeys/insert adjective here you have at the table the better. Couple of days ago I was sitting at a $1/2 NL table, $300 max buy in with just a huge fish. Buys in for the max, goes bust about a half hour later. Rebuys for the max, goes bust about a half hour later. Rebuys for another $150, busts out again in about 20 minutes (a lot of it to me :D). You see these types all over.

On a related side note, these are the types of people that almost always display numerous tells. So along the same lines of don't call them donkeys to their face, don't point out their tells just to feed your ego. To me, it's all about taking their entire bankroll if I can. I can brag to my friends later after I leave about how big of a donk he was.

thats one thing that really irksd me and shows how stupid some people are. often you see someone take down a big pot with a donk/fish/whatever just pushing money in. straight after they call them all the usual names...why??? wouldn't the smart thing to do be encourage them to stay, not humiliate them?

It is always a GOOD thing to encourage fish/donkey play. If somebody shows a hand that doesn't have to, I always say "nh" in hopes that he will show more. The more free information I get the better. And I NEVER try to improve somebody at the table. Perhaps in this forum, but only a little bit.
