Most of the poker sites these day are increasingly going into the path of this hyper/turbo and excessive late registration type of mentality because of the factor of rake.Faster game mean faster profit in term of rake collections and, more players in a tourney with excessive late registration also mean more rake collections disregarding the huge factor of variances involved.

The main problems is,these days we are actually running out of option because there are fewer and fewer +EV game available to choose from and most site are reluctant to offer it anymore because of the factor of profits as customers are no longer their main priority. At this rate the only games you could look forward to are the flip All in or Fold tournaments or 20 to 30 level of excessive late registration.Poker room are no longer interested in offering the kind of game that you can actually make an EV+.They are heading into this Scratch Card kind mentality because profit is their only main priority.online poker is not what they used to be.You can't hardly find a beatable game these days.

half agree
its been quite the evolution, and yes there is a trend towards bigger prize pool tourneys, but this is what attracts players- the guaranteed numbers are what brings people in, and unfortunately with so much competition in the industry everyone has to offer them - they manipulate us to think these are the greatest things since sliced bread, and the best way to avoid an overlay is to extend registration - its not the best for certain players - i do not care for it but it wont stop me from playing (though i rarely play mtts anyways because of how long they take)

turbo has been more of a player request sort of thing, they wouldnt run them if people didnt play them often, i know a ton of players who like turbos better than standard, i do not, i like having room to play and will only play a turbo if it is a mega stack, and of course the site will offer them and encourage them because of turnaround, but there are plenty of other options

so yes the sites are doing what it takes to be more profitable, and it hurts the regular old school players because it not what we are used to - they want to bring in new younger players, and this is the way - sux but its just like any company - whoring out to the man
