Scamming permitted on Pokerstars

I want to let everyone know that pokerstars permits scamming on their site. I was approached by someone offering to buy my play chips, and that person never sent me the money. Pokerstars refused to penalize or warn the player in anyway, which means they tacitly encourage the practice. They penalize players for making an off-color comment, but theft is acceptable. There are any number of actions they could take to stop the practice, but they choose not to do so. They may have even found a way to profit from it. I will not be depositing any money into the site because their tactic encouragement of illicit behavior suggests to me that they cannot be trusted to secure real money deposits either.

So a random stranger who you have never met and never will offered you an un-enforcable deal and when it didn't work you in your favor it is PokerStars fault?

It sucks but it sounds like a case of you live and learn.

Though yours may be true, PokerStars probably gets many people with similar stories that are unverifiable. What would be worse is if Stars penalized someone because of a false story against them.

Bottom line: No indisputable proof, no action. Sorry.

Also, I'm fairly sure Stars does not take kindly to the selling of their play chips.

Why would someone buy play chips? Their so easy to win.

Another case of poor judgment resulting in a "blame anyone but myself" outcome?

There are legitimate venues for selling play money chips. You should have done some research first, or asked around, rather than expect PokerStars to be responsible for somebody ripping you off. PokerStars was not a party to the transaction, which was a private one between you and this other person. And I consider the notion that they "tacitly encourage" this is sort of thing to be, frankly, alarmist and baseless.

You're not allowed to make deals at their tables. You were breaking their rules and only lost fake money.

so if you went to a basketball game and the guy next to you said "i'll give you a handjob for $30" and you gave him the money and then he just left, you would say that the NBA encourages scamming too, right?

It is absolutely verifiable by reviewing the chat record in the room where Treufreak77 initiated the transaction. They also keep records or transfers. They review chat records if someone swears, but chose to ignore this which violates their own stated rules. That they chose to do nothing (not even issue a warning) means they want the behavior to continue. They may even profit from it.
Obviously I will learn from the experience. One of the lessons is that pokerstarts is a disreputable company that cannot be trusted.

I don't understand why would anybody buy play chips?

Inwhat POSSIBLE way could PokerStars profit from it? They give away billions of play chips, literally making them out of thin air! And, for the record, they officially do not allow the selling of same.

So let me see if I got this straight: You got scammed on PokerStars while officially breaking their rules, complained to them about it, and because they didn't come to the rescue of yer stupid ass, THEY are a disreputable company?

It would certainly be a much more safe and sane world if women got as excited over a hand job as men do.

most of what alex is saying is ridiculous and pretty immature obv...but i'm pretty convinced that pokerstars is entirely for the sale of play chips. & btw it isn't illegal, you just can't discuss about it in the chat box.. that's all their rules state. anyway, the sale of chips just gives another user money, which I assume stars wants you to build off of to get another raked in customer.

I'm sure that PokerStars is all for any activity that gets active money on their site with as little maintenance as possible.

So yeah, I'm sure they'd like selling chips for money as it puts money into the hands of people who probably otherwise wouldn't have any. Then they get their cut of the $ when that person plays.
Also play begets play. That is, the more active people there are the more it encourages other people to play.

I'm sure they don't want people talking about selling chips in their chat windows because they want to wash their hands of it. IE, if they allowed it people would solicit sales which would also encourage scamming and would result in a written record that people would *assume* that PokerStars can use to settle the dispute. It's not good business for PokerStars to a waste man hours trying to settle a $10 dispute that will probably end with one party angry at them.

So PokerStars stance would probably be something like, "You're welcome to do that activity at your own risk, but we're not involved so keep us out of it. We don't want to waste the man hours for that small amount of money, especially when it's likely to result in someone being mad at *us*."
