Working on my current bankroll management and reading the site I see references to ROI (Return on Investment)

Is this correct?

If I put up $11 for a SNG (10+1) and finish;

First $50 (ROI 454%)
Second $30 (ROI 272%)
Third $20 (ROI 181%)

What level of ROI should I aim at. e.g. if my ROI was 105% should I drop back a level or keep grinding? If 180% should I move up?

I beleive your computations are incorrect.

first is a win of $39 so 355%
Second (19) for 173%
Third (9) for 82%.

I cannot really comment on what you should aim for, I play mostly ring game and MTT, but I will add regardless of your ROI, make sure you have a good sample size and a proper bankroll before you move up.

Subtract the entry from the prize before you calculate. $20 prize with $11 entry is 81.8% ROI.

I don't even look at ROI for bankroll management. For STT I will not play with higher than 1/20th of my bankroll in any one event. (1/30th for turbos, though I rarely play them).

Anything over 20% ROI at the 11 dollar level would be unsustainable over the long run. You are crazy if you think you are going to be able to maintain 100% ROI, thats just rediculous. As for how much you should have, I recommend atleast 40 buy-ins for whatever level you want to play. Trust me, variance is a beotch in S&Gs.

To clarify - 20 buy-ins assumes that if I lose enough that I no longer have that much, I'll drop down in stakes accordingly. If you can't or won't do that, then yes, you will need more buy-ins to cover the variance.

Oops. worked on 50/11 rather than 39/11. I have had to recalculate my figures. Thanks.

Thanks for the advice. You may have jumped to conclusions a little quickly there. I was miscalculating my percentages so the question should have read....

What level of ROI should I aim at. e.g. if my ROI was 5% should I drop back a level or keep grinding? If 80% should I move up?

A little more info. Some time ago I won $40 in a freeroll and quickly got it up to $100 (with no understanding of Bankroll management) and then proceeded to lose it all.

I started reading things on this forum and came to realise the mistakes I made. It would seem you cant win everything all the time. So I started again.

I deposited $25 into my account and proceeded to GRIND my way through 50 cent SNG games until I got to $50. Then I moved to $1.00 SNG's. At $150 I started playing $3.00 SNG's and that gets me to where I am now. (I did play a $7.50 MTT the other day and we shall call that a LEARNING EXPERIENCE)

Over the last month the ROI is 75% (based on 25 SNG's, only started keeping detailed records last month). My bankroll is just shy of $250 and I was planning on moving up to $6.00 + $0.60 games once I reach $300.

I was just curious about people's thoughts.

What level of ROI should I aim at? Obviously anything above 0% is profitable but is it wasting time with a ROI of 10%? Is that type of ROI about the standard at higher levels?

Thanks again for your comments. Hope to get some more.

completely different animals

ROI will constantly fluctuate regardless of what levels ur at

Bankroll management is where you want to focus your attention, its the most important factor in any players game IMO. Once its gone, it stays gone for awhile...esp if ur american...

there are TONS of articles on b-roll mngmt. online, just google it up and chow down!
