...why people strive to be a pro poker player playing these games is beyond me :(

Hard as I try, I can not be bothered playing ring games.

I thought "Let's see if I can build up some FPP`s on Stars but I'll be honest, it is like torture.

Am I missing something?

I'm playing FLO8, $20 or $40, 2 - 4 tables. I have left the table once losing $5, but the rest of the time I am up and have built my bankroll up, but it takes forever.

I just feel the excitement of a MTT can't be beaten.

Just bored and spouting off I guess, but is it just me ?

Cash games do seem so sterile. even though Im trying to dip my feet into that

MTT's feel more like an event, and its always fun to see who is still around later in the game.

and I thought I was alone with this thought!!!

For me, with a cash game there is not real start, middle and end. It just goes on and on and on and on and...

This is probably why it is knows as `grinding`

MTT's are more exciting in my opinion because you are playing against other people, trying to beat them. Ring games, in effect, you are playing against yourself.

But, again, I'm glad it is not just me :)

I like tourneys but i don't have time to play them anymore.

I def get a bit bored of ring games at times. Started playing some PLO zoom recently and really enjoying playing a different game.

I prefer MTTs myself, but many who lean toward cash do so because they make more money with less variance over the long term.

I also think that the worst players play ring games - online anyway.

Reason for this is that ring games are the only ones where you can't see their stats.

Everytime I am playing a ring game and out of interest I check the stats of the players on OPR or sharkscope, they are real bad, and I mean, real bad.

Lol, cash players are way better than tourney players imo

You can see stats of ring game players on PTR (apart from Stars players)

I am refering to what I can see v what I can't see.

I'm playing $1/2 FL/ $40 buy in. It is very rare that the players I check on are winning players in what I can see - MTT & SNG's

The could, of course, be the greatest cash game players in the World for all I know. However, from the way the play it seems that the gamblers play cash and the strategy players play MTT`s & SNG`s...imo

I prefer tournaments myself. I really suck at ring games, Seems I do somewhat better at MMT's.I think some of it is that once I pay the entry into a T, the money is not mine anymore so I play looser. That would convert to ring games, I play "Scared". Take care.

I feel the same way. I am trying to play them more because I hate waiting for a tournament. But they do seem to get rather stale fast.

I was thinking about this the other night and I am trying to think of a way to make them more exciting. I have not tried it yet so I am not sure how it would work. But I was thinking about taking one buy in at my normal stake. And if/when I build it up to the next LVL buy in move up. And if/when I work it up to the next LVL move up again. And see how far I can go or stop when I feel like it. I would be like a ring game tournament that I can leave when ever I want. Not sure if it would be worth it or not, but it might be fun to do once a day. Any thoughts?

I earn player points faster playing ring games, is the reason I play ring games. The other reason I might play ring is I might only have 10 or 20 minutes, a tournament can last 3-5 hours, so ring games definitely have their place for a person with a job or family. I make my money playing tournaments, though. No money to be made with my ring game play.

What about multi-tabling? Some of the young players play like 20 or more tables at the same time. Try 3 or 4. Maybe it'll change your perception...but... maybe for the worse!

*shrugs*

Each to their own I guess. Personally I find large-field MTTs to be mind-numbingly tedious but that's just me...

They can get boring on the internet, but I enjoy playing long hours of cash games live, it really is a good way to make money. Although, tournaments are really fun, and winning one is an amazing feeling.

Tried cash, failed. Back to tourneys, enjoying it immensely. But still failing in general terms!

I like to start an mtt when I get on then open 2 or 3 ring games on the side. I play nitty in Mtt's so the ring games keep me from getting bored. And usually I make quite a bit more with the ring tables than the main table (mtt)

Oh and nothing beats the thrill of first sitting down, getting dealt AA and immediately doubling/tripling up in the first couple hands. Can't do that in a tourny!

Sure you can. It just means less in a tourney.

Well yeah you can double/triple up in a mtt first couple hands. But it still isnt over and nothings been handed to you yet. In a ring game its Instant gratification lol

Different people have different personalities and can prefer different games. Is that a difficult concept to understand?

Thanks for the comments everyone.

I think that I like the competition of a MTT.

In a ring game you can play real well but the person playing you can reload and reload.

So I guess this is why I prefer MTT`s...

a) I enjoy the competition
b) I can`t change my mindset from the competition to a ring game.

I also think, for me, if it was just about the cash it would become boring and `just another job`

I'm a great believer that if you do something because you enjoy it and then you excel in that field, the money will follow

Small-mid field tourneys can be fun, provided they're structured properly as most of the major networks do nowadays. Large field tourneys do tend to become mind-numbing imo.

Cash games are a staple for me, but I do understand the view that it's a massive grind, without a start and end point. Try speed/rush poker, there're still loose fishes on there. Was addicted to it, weaning myself off by playing more tourneys nowadays though... kills my brain cells too fast multi-ing 4 speed tables. I'm weak, i know lol.
