resources for getting better

I know that books and simply experience are two of the best teachers. And that the specific answer to this question probably depends on where the person is who is asking it.

My poker library is expanding and I expect it will continue to do so pretty much as fast as I can read/absorb whatever book I'm currently on. (I really can't get enough of reading books right now).

Basically I'm just looking for advice on where to go/what to utilize to get better. I have heard people mention sites with videos and other things that are useful for learning purposes for example.

As far as I go personally, I'm very serious about wanting to try and get better. I feel I'm doing pretty well but I know I have alot to learn still. So answers can be to me directly or just in general: I know there are plenty of book threads/reviews on these forums now so I'm not really looking for more book information (though it sure never hurts) as much as I am other forms of materials.

One of the most commonly-used (and best) ways of improving one's game is through forums like this. Posting hand histories, analyzing other peoples' HHs and discussing poker strategies and theories with other poker freaks is a great way of bringing your game to another level.

Basically, overall you want to (1) read lots from people who have more experience than you (books), (2) play lots to get more experience, (3) review your hands and identify your weak points (forums), and (4) discuss hands, strategies and theories with others (also forums).

Obviously an online poker forum with players from around the world provides a perfect medium for poker discussions. I would be meeting up with a live poker study group as often as possible, but I don't know a single person who's as obsessed with the game as I am.

Anyways, post any and all hands that you had trouble with, or thought you could have played better, or even just interesting hands for analysis. You might not get feedback every time, but it helps tremendously when you do.

I recommend studying, one book at a time, instead of trying to zoom through them. I think this will make poker alot more fun for you, and possibly profitable.

I do know that watching better players put their theories and strategies to the felt helps put everything in tremendous perspective. If you can afford a subscription to one of the bigger ones (the only ones I'd trust), then shoot for it. It'll only help your game.

Forgive my ignorance.. but could you recommend one or two specific ones?

Well mods don't exactly like to see links etc to other sites, but most know the two biggies anyways: cardrunners and stoxpoker.

One caveat about the video sites; the videos are done by some of the best high stakes online players, and when they take themselves down in levels (as low as $25NL!) they don't fare as well as they tend to do at levels at which they're more used to playing, from the little I've seen. It makes sense, because they probably haven't played there in years.

Not that you can't learn anything, but be careful trying to apply their style to mere mortal levels of playing.
