It is known that mood can affect the result of a game of poker, and our relatives can affect our mood. It is good when relatives are understanding and you can settle everything with them with a normal conversation. But often relatives and poker are not compatible.
My girlfriend and my parents are against poker:mad:. If they saw that I had poker running on my phone or laptop during a meeting with them, they would spoil my mood a little with their moralizing, and then my game deteriorates.
I would like to hear your stories about similar situations. And the main thing is to find out if you were able to solve this problem. I am interested in finding out tips that could help me.

My Experience...

Grew up in a family of Jehovah Witnesses. I heard stories that before my mother became one she and her mom went to casino's heavy playing slots. She had stopped that once she became a witness. Fast forward to my grown years (24-28 years of age) I started getting in online play and then heard about Mount Airy Casino in the Pocono's in PA.....Great Place! My mom found out about it and she wound up wanting to go. She's the only one in my immediate family that knows I gambled with real money. Fast forward again, now I got a wife and kids. My mother-in-law is a devout Baptist and just like your relative she would just me. It never bothered me or my game because by that time, I had already left all religion, became an astrologer and adopted a whole new concept on the so-called "conscious" (what is good and what is bad). My wife was against it because her mom (my mother-in-law) would stay in her ear. However, one day I think I asked her or she asked me...not sure how it happened but she started to take a liking and getting used to me playing. Not before long, we were winning online tournaments together back-to-back. She's a stay at home mom so I think it excited her knowing she was helping to make money. The problem is, the slightest folding of hands and she would tilt.....HARD!!! Like she would really Tilt to the point where it was effecting my game too. So some days I would involve her and some day's a wouldn't. Eventually my mother-in-law started seeing the money that was coming in from poker and although she still doesn't like it...…..she tolerates it. Then one day....I accidentally excluded myself from online poker for 5 YEARS!!!!!1:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad: I got 4 years to go. Low key....I think they are happy. Me?......I'm living in hell! So, I reply to post here, play poker with play chips instead and go on Daniel Negreanu live stream to watch him play. Recently I realized I can go to Sugarhouse Casino in Philadelphia and play slots and play poker and blackjack at the tables so that gets me by...…...that's my experience.

Gotta split your time better, got to set time aside for your girlfriend and mother and explain that you will be playing poker 1 or 2 evenings a week and the rest of the time is devoted to them

You are playing poker on your phone while 'meeting' with your girlfriend or parents? That is disrespectful of them and they have every right to be upset. Meet or play poker - not both at the same time.
I play online poker 3 evenings a week and sometimes more. My wife is in the same room with me, but we are not 'in a meeting'. She is playing games on her ipad.

It is possible

It all depends on the situation in the family, if you devote enough time to your family and do not prejudice them with your poker game, then I think everything will be fine:)

My parents also don’t like poker, they say it’s a waste of time. I try to not play poker in front of them, so, I usually play in my room.

That's all right. You play calmly late in the evening, you don't make mistakes, and then your wife comes in and starts telling her that this poker is beginning to annoy her and, in general, it's too late. The result is predictable. There is no mood and with a pair of 10-10 you lose the stack. )))

You need to know how to divide your time between family, friends, relatives, poker so that there is a proper balance that does not affect your relationships.

I agree that balance is the key here

When you are wanting to play poker, you should be just be playing poker (and it should be on your own time)

When you are with your GF and/or her family you should be fully present with them 100%. Nobody wants to share time with someone who isn't really present and enjoying their company.

Poker should be a part of your life that you get to enjoy, like a hobby, but it shouldn't be an addiction that you can't put away.

When you pull out poker in a social situation you are basically telling the other people (on a nonverbal level) that they are 'boring' or not worth your time, and this is what would likely lead to feelings of resentment anger etc.

How would you feel if everytime you wanted to hang with your GF she spent the entire time swiping thru her instagram feed? What do you think your family would think of her if she did that during all your family dinners.

Be present with the main activity you are doing, when you are with the group be with the group, when you are on your own do as you please. (also note, if you make an effort to genuinely listen and understand their interests without judgement, they may just begin to do the same for you!)

Hope this advice helps from someone who has lost relationships because of addictions (me), and who has learned the joys of sharing moments with good people. You'll be much happier in the long run if you can find this balance.

Best of luck to you my friend.

it is normal that parents do not like to see their children playing poker because for them it is a gambling game in which you risk losing your savings. unless you win big sums of money and show them that it is not just a game of luck but also of skills in which you are good. it is rare to be able to make them change their mind about this game. I am in the same case. my parents have never liked this game. but when I explain to them that I had never made a deposit in my life and that I was playing thanks to the money I earned on frerrolls. it made them more understanding on this subject even though he still doesn't like to see me spending several hours a day playing poker. because as I said previously. as long as you don't earn enough money. for them this game will always be a waste of time. it is more difficult to find the right arguments when you live in a society which values religion and which prohibits all gambling. but what is certain is that we must try to talk about it with them. when possible to defuse this conflict and not see your game deteriorate every time it catches you playing.

The best proof for your family that poker is not a horror story, but a profitable business like a regular business, is to show them your withdrawal of the money won, if any. I specially won my first 100 dollars on freerolls and told my relatives about getting them on the card. Then they have come to terms with my poker game. Moreover, I try not to use my money for poker.

Can't you just sign up with another site? Something like SWC poker or coinpoker - both crypto and need very little personal info..

Let me introduce you.....😕

So there’s such a thing as the Federal Gambling Association (Found this out the hard way). So once you exclude yourself on one ☝🏽 site (In my case pokerstars). I DIDN'T KNOW THIS AND PROBABLY A LOT OF POKER PLAYERS DON’T BUT..........they submit all the information they have on you to the FGA(Federal Gambling Association). This in-turn excludes you from every single real money poker site!........WHEN I TELL YOU I CANT PLAY REAL MONEY poker online ANYWHERE!!!!!! I MEAN IT.....IVE TRIED. 🤷🏽*♂️ Nothing to do but play play money till 2024. Maybe try an actual casino but online is out for now!
