I need some advice on playing the Rebuy Tournaments on pokerstars. Is it just me or do these tournaments attract players that just shove with any and every hand? I tried playing a $1.10 Rebuy Turbo Tournament last night and really had no idea what to do with the players I encountered.

I found myself debating on whether to wait for a really strong hand and being knocked out by the blinds or joining the donk-fest. I guess I'm hoping to get some insight on anyone's strategy in these tournys.

I've played these re-buys in several sites...they are a free-for-all! I do better playing pretty tight, & trying to stay alive till after 1st break. Most of the entrants will waste their money on trash hands, knowing they can get right back into the action. GL with them!:D

The biggest problem that I see here is that you do not understand rebuy strategy. You should not be going into a rebuy thinking that you can get through it without rebuying at all. The reason people are going all-in left and right is so that they have the advantage once the rebuy period is over by having a lot more chips, even if they are marginal situations when they pushed in the first place. You should go into a rebuy thinking that it's possible for you to have to rebuy 5-10-15 times if you want to have a decent stack when the rebuy period is over.

Many smaller stakes players will play in these tournaments thinking that they will be able to move that single buyin into a cash, but what happens the majority of the time to those players is that they just end up folding to everyone's all-in's when they are trying to build their stack, and when the rebuy period ends, you still might have just around your starting stack, while all of the rebuyer's have 3-4 times that because they took advantage of it.

If you don't understand that the $1.10 rebuy should probably end up costing you at least $5.50, then you are going to end up pissed off every time, because you're going to be taken advantage of. It's very frustrating even for people who want to rebuy just because of the HUGE hand range that people will push with, but that is just the strategy of rebuys, so you'll have to either adapt and get used to it, or stop playing rebuys.

At that level, you need to decide how many rebuys you are willing to spend before you start and play tight at the start just play your premium hands as alot of people will go all ina with anything:D.

Probably one of the most frustrating games when you continually get bad beats, but try not to go on tilt and continue to buy in once ou have reached your limit:eek:

Listen to Katy friend, that's the key, you need to decide first how many rebuys you are willing to put in and stick to it.

As for me, I actually run counter to absolut and stick to just my original stack, but I am not afraid at all to be caught all-in. A lot of times I bust out with the advantage in hole cards to crappy players, but a lot of times I double and triple up too. Generally in rebuy tourneys that first hour I survive 25% of the time. During those 25% of the times I survive I generally have a 4-5x+ original stack and am in good shape for the more serious play afterwards.

I really like the $.10 rebuys on ft, as the high end pay is good for a $.10 deposit. The rebuys are $.50 if I recall (haven't rebought in a long time so I don't remember lol), so it works out for me that way. My way is not for everyone, it takes a lot of patience, because you're not getting back into it and also have to wait a full day for the next rebuy tourney when you bust out.

on rebuys especially cheap rebuys within the first hour will be super aggressive wait till they can't rebuy and they should all slow down they all want to make a huge stack to get them through the rest of the tournament

I tried the low rebuys early on when I started and I quickly realized it is a major all-in-fest. Especially if it's only $1.10. People are pushing just about all pockets, even KQ and QJ. The 2 things that stick out for me are 1) as other people have said you have to decide ahead of time how many rebuys you will do and 2) if you can have patience in the first hour, you can (and almost need to) double up.

the higher buy ins are gettting a lot tighter early on they used to be the same as the low buy ins today, guys pushing with small pairs or whateverf...

but its still a shove fest in the smaller buy ins, you can either shove with them and buy in a few tiems, or wait for a good spot, and still probably buy in a few times.... you need a few chips past the break as it becomes a game of deep stacked poker then.. if your left short, your chances are considerably dimished( no matter how good you think you are)

These tourneys are donk fests especially the lower the stakes. if you can sorta wait out the rebuy period and slowly gain chips and get over that starting mark in the 1st hour you survive the donks

Exactly Johnny! Just because the people are pushing with all hands in a rebuy does not make them donks(although I am sure many of them are). Read a pro's explanation of their rebuy strategy and 99% of them will say that you need to go into it thinking that you are going to rebuy at least 5 times. Daniel Negreanu rebought like 18 times in a PS rebuy about a year ago and won it, that's how it's done! It is very chaotic during the rebuy period of these tournaments, but not because of the donks, because of the strategy.

I understand and agree that when entering these tourny's you have to have the mindset that you will have to rebuy multiple times. However, 4 people at the table were shoving with literally EVERY hand they had! I'm talking hands like 72off, 46off, 82off...maybe it's just me but I consider those people to be "donks"...if yall don't consider those people to be donkeys, please, enlighten me as to what classifies as a "donkey"...
