I'm watching the 07 wsop again (Day 1d) part 1/5. The question I have is actually about Gold, yes PPL I'm talking about Jamie Gold. My question is why do ppl really hate him. I mean ok, he got lucky in 06 (Extremly Lucky). Yet ppl need to get lucky in such massive tourneys like this, so what is so different about him? Why do ppl really dislike this guy overall. Why do other pros look down on him?

I know these questions prolly were already asked, and if so plz just show me a thread to all my answers, thx all

Nah. Good questions.

I think "hate" is a bit of a strong word. Many people "hate" Phil H and others for their wild antics at the table. But I think Jamie Gold is just overly cocky. That seems to rub certain people the wrong way. I mean Joe Hachem is also cocky, but he seems to give respect. Gold hasn't really paid his dues in the poker world but seems like he expects respect from long-time pros. Plus, Gold isn't that great of a poker player. He's pretty much had his ass handed to him on High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark. Gotta win stuff like that to gain respect from the old timers.

iirc this is the one where Cunningham absolutely owns him but the deck slaps Gold in the face and then some. Meanwhile the way he's talking ("you don't want me to call") is just pretty arrogant. But yeah I don't think too many people hate him. He's just not THAT good (although from what I've seen I think he's better than some give him credit for) and certainly not as good as he thinks he is. But w/e there are tons of those in the poker world.

I don't think anybody hates Mr. Jamie Gold. Did everybody hate Wayne Gretzky because he scored more goals than Gordie Howe ?

Answer: No

I don't think Mr. Jamie Gold hates Jennifer Tilly !!!!!!!!

Don't hate, participate.

I can't speak for eveyone but I don't like Jaime Gold because I think it was a fluke he won, mainly becuase he got unbelivably lucky. Anybody would have won that tournament the way the cards were falling. I aslo don't like the way he acted once he became chip leader. Saying things like "I'll show either way."

i hate jamie gold because he is a D - bag, and i could probably beat him in a heads up match (thats how lucky he was). He seriously won the main event because of luck. he probably has like 25% skill 75% luck. I doubt he will ever place again in the main event.

IMO Jamie Gold still needs to prove himself to the world that he is a pro. He still has a lot to learn, this young man. All we have to do now is wait to see what his future will be like. Will he continue to play the way he is right now and be " extremely" lucky...LETS FIND OUT!

he's just not a likeable guy. you can tell by the way he acts. he seems selfish and wormy, and he looks like a puppet. that said i don't thing he is a bad poker player. just a bad person.

people rag on Money Maker all the time for being lucky. but at least he is a good guy. Gold is just a jerk.

The only person i have seen in the WSOP (hardly watch poker on tv so im sure there are others) that i absolutely could not stand was Tiffany Michelle. I find guys like Phil H and Mike M more entertaining than annoying.

I'd guess ppl don't like Jamie Gold coz he was pretty arrogant and showy even tho he beat out far better players who were playing far better than him. I'd don't mind him tho.

I thnk most people didn't like his level of arrogance while he was playing. I could be wrong, but I also think there may have been some story out their about him trying to re-neg on an agreement to split his winnings from the WSOP.

I actually kinda like him. Obviously he got a good run of cards to win the 2006 Main Event, but anyone would have had to in order to beat a field that big and at least it looked like he had a game plan once he got his hands on all those chips. Compare that to Jerry Yang, who just... well, he really just raised one million, didn't he.

Is he the best player in the world, and is he ever likely to be? Hell no, and hell no. I don't think he'd ever claim any of those things anyway.

What he did do was break a few of the tournament rules on the way to winning the the Main Event. Let's be fair though, the one he broke the most often (the "don't tell the truth about your hand" one) is a completely idiotic rule to start with. And it's possible he would've stopped breaking rules if the tournament directors or floor people had actually bothered to enforce them.

So... meh. He's OK in my book.

I agree with this. Even in that tourney he acted like an a-hole, and I remember thinking "Damn, this guy's a d---head and I hope he doesn't win a dime!" before he won it all. He's the kind of guy that I could see making one too many smartass comments in a cash game and finally having someone beat the snot out of him while he cowers and prays for security to save him. Not only would the guy suck out and get super lucky, but then he would act all smug as if he had made some kind of excellent play, when anyone could see that wasn't the case.

In the High Stakes Poker shows, it seems like all of the other pros clown on him and berate him a little while they kick his ass, and it's great.

BTW, I hated the next year after he won when his leather-faced mom was in the WSOP and they made such a big huge deal out of it. It would've been funny if someone threw her off at the table by asking her "So, how come your son's such an arrogant douchebag?":D

I agree with MrSticker and that it is Jamie Gold's cocky mouth that annoy people enough to dislike him. Joe Hachem is cocky but he has a charm about it that works at the table. You take Gold's comments and then put it with a lucky river....u are bound to get some people upset.

Wow, alot of different views on him, I have acouple for liking him/his style
of play, alot for just down right can't stand his arrogance (Not to forget
about his, I can't even begin to recall all of his luck based moves).

Personally I can understand where that arrogance comes from in a sense. Ok just think about it ppl, your in the money, your a massive chip leader, you have the power to seriously take anyone out at any given time in that tourney! Yes he did break the rules by constantly telling the trueth to ppl, and yes that in-itself can be taken as a sign of belittling ppl or "Disrespecting ppls ability to read other ppl"? Yet that was his style, he would do the same-things through-out that tourney when he had the best of it, and when he had the worst of it, correct? Yet the thing I could'nt really understand is 2 things, A) HE ACTUALLY HAD ACOUPLE OF THREATS PLACED AGAINST HIM:eek: & B) That kid that Jamie (I forget the other guys name though), got into a Big Stack conflict with one another, he's the kid that through the ALLIN BUTTON AT GOLD by mistake/ or intentional), why when he was seriously an ass did'nt anyone tell him of? Ok he did'nt win, fair enough, but seriously I thought that kid (really an excellent player BTW) was more of an ass the Gold was.

x 2.

Anyone who says Jamie Gold was the biggest assclown at the 2006 Main Event has clearly forgotten about this guy.

Yes yes, you know who i'm taking about, the guy, I forget the exact hand it was, but the kid (I really don't recall his name) Swore to take someone at his table out, prior to Gold sitting down there, and that person happend to push allin for 160-170k, and the kid did'nt even look at his whole cards, and said I call. When the guy lost he asked why did you call? That kid replied simply because I swore I would take you out, and I was'nt going back on my word:eek: :D , LMFAO, hahaha, that kid was INGENIOUS, LOL.

I actually hated more the 07 champion, i think he was smoething yang. Jerry yang maybe. That guy was a complete fish, and he kept floping and outfloping players. Meh i think i can beat him in a normal game without that sort of luck involved.

4 words: "I said top top"

The player you're looking for is Eric Molina

I think it was Shane Schleger that he did that, "I'd love to take you out" to.

Look at it another way, if he were just some guy that you ran into at a party and you didn't know he was a poker pro, and he copped that kind of an attitude toward you and everyone else in the room, wouldn't you think he was a tool?

Agree that Molina was a jerk, also. It seems that there are more and more of these guys as the WSOP has gotten so big that are trying to pull any little schtick they can in order to get noticed and get more TV time, whether by their dress, their props they bring to the table, by acting like a goofball (like Khan), or by just being an a-hole to everyone around them. If they don't get rewarded in cash through their play, they get rewarded in endorsement contracts from poker sites for their increased visibility. The guys that keep an even keel, play good poker, and don't act out on their way to a good cash go unnoticed next to the idiots.
