I've never taken rake into serious consideration when registering for a STT (this is what I play, mainly). The rake for the STT's is about 8%. Haven't checked out other sites for their rake percentages. I read that pokerstars has the lowest.

Is rake a big factor in determining at what site you play?

Do you even consider it?

I get the VPPs because of rake so I don't really mind, it's not a big factor for me

Nah i have never looked at the rake when registering for tournaments or sit n go's. I just look at the the prize structure and the blind level. If i am comfortable with all the criteria and the buyin fits my bankroll management rulebook then i go ahead. I only consider getting bothered by rake when i play cash games.

anything below 8-10% is pretty good for micros, anything past 10% is getting a bit steep and your going to find it hard to get a good ROI. Making vpp's is great, but not if your losing money in your games. remember, as low limit players, we really don't get much back from vpp's unless you play a lot.

I will basically never buy into any tournament where the fee is more than 10%. Why would I when it's so easy to find games that charge 10% or less?

I remember back in the day that stars $1 games had something close to 20% rake, lol. you had to cash really often to even show a modest profit over the long run.

10% seems very reasonable, but about tourneys couldn't care less because nobody looking at price pool even doesn't notice that there is 10% of that missing at the fact that you need to be in top 10 - 20% to even win something ;P
