Is Rake Back really that important for the low rollers?

The major overall feeling I see and hear towards rack back is that if you don't use it then youre foolish...I seldom play SNG and when I do it's always .5/.10...which makes my rake back bonus take absolutely forever....is it really that necessary for people like me who only play mostly MTTS? Thanks for the insight and I hope your turkey days were awesome!

I never bothered with rakeback, I play poker for fun!
If you are a serious player it's probably important.

Yea you're probably right, except I'm trying to progress to the level where I'm doing it full time, so ill hold off on rake back for awhile

You might as well get it now. Even though it may seem like a small amount, if you play any sort of volume at all it will add up and be worthwhile. Also there may come a time when it is unavailable and you could be playing alot more by then. Get it while it's going!

It's free money that you don't have to do anything to get. Why would you not take advantage of it? That doesn't make sense to me. Doesn't matter the stakes or volume.

It's not like most bonus promos that have play-through requirements. There is absolutely zero downside to having RB, so I fail to understand why anyone would even need ask the question?

Exactly, it's "free money" in a sense, so just take it! Or you could think of it as taking back what is yours to begin with: since rakeback has become the norm, poker rooms have likely adjusted their fees so that you are overpaying prior to rakeback.

Also, if you keep playing, it does amount to something substantial over time. Though each tournament I play costs only a couple of cents in entrance fees, I've played enough of them that I've accumulated hundreds of dollars just in rakeback. It may not feel like much when you're only collecting a few piddly cents each day, but in total it can comprise a significant portion of your profit.

^ this. Just... this. Free money is a good thing, even if it's only a small amount because you only play a small amount.

Right, if it is there then you might as well use it.

It is also important to note that you gain rake at a faster rate playing ring games than playing in tournaments or sit and gos

yes youre correct, free money IS free money....but i dont play ring games enough to even make a dent in my FPP, to me its absolutely uselss, i dont make big deposits, usually the minimum at a time, and only play in micro level tournaments...i just checked my FPPs and my bonus was expired, before even getting back a cent of my rake back....so for people like me, its basically useless

i wouldn't say its free money. think of it like a tax return. you're paying rake, but get a percentage of that back. anyways, like everyone said, you would be foolish not to have rakeback. a losing player might break even with it, and a small winner might be a big winner with rakeback.

It might not be important when you start out,
but it would be important if you increased volume or stakes.

With pokerstars and now fulltilt it is quite easy, as they just have a rewards program that you are automatically a part of, and the rewards automatically improve as your play increases. No matter how you sign up everybody gets the same program.

The other rakeback programmes are more fiddly as you need to find the best third party rakeback dealer to sign up through before you start,
In case in a few years ahead you start to play higher levels, because you only get one chance in a lifetime to join for each site.
Some players at these sites will get Zero rakeback for life, while others might get up to 50% rakeback.

You keep saying "bonus" and "FPP" so it sounds like you don't understand what rakeback is, or you're confusing a VIP/rewards program with rakeback.

If you're talking about Stars, they don't have a rakeback program. Nor does Full Tilt anymore. If you're a low stakes/volume player on these sites, then no you probably won't earn more than enough to maybe clear the $5 Stellar Reward Bonus each month (if they even still offer that). To earn significant rewards with Stars you have to play enough volume to earn enough rewards to meet or exceed RB from other sites.

Rakeback is different. It has nothing to do with points earned (although typically any points are earned at a lower rate offset by the RB amount). When you get rakeback, you get a rebate of a fixed percent of the rake (actually an adjusted rake amount, but we just say "rake") you pay. It may be paid hourly, daily, or weekly depending on the site. There is nothing to "expire" and it's not a bonus.

To get an idea of what you can earn, there are a number of rakeback calculators like this one, which tells me that a 2NL player playing 2 tables 4 hours a day can earn $3 per week or $13 per month at 35% rakeback. For the typical 2NL bankroll that's not an inconsequential amount of money, and as someone else mentions, RB is often the difference between a losing, break-even, or even a slightly winning player.

If you're playing low stakes/volume on Stars, then there's no rakeback program for you to concern yourself with. But if you're playing on other sites, particularly Merge or Revolution/Cake skins, then you can and should be earning rakeback no matter your stakes or volume.

With most poker sites/networks, unless your account is permanently tied to an affiliate, you can have rakeback added to an existing account. I know you can with Merge skins, and I think Revolution/Cake skins as well.

You CANNOT create a new account, regardless. That is against the terms of virtually all sites that I'm aware of.

Do most of them require a deposit to start rakeback? Was really curious about this cause it looked that way to me.

I actually switched sites that I play for the rakeback. I was on SkyPoker and playing without a HUD and no rakeback. I switched over to one of the ipoker sites and now I have a full working HUD and 55% rakeback. I've only been playing at £2NL cash games so far and made almost £40 (about $65 roughly) rakeback.

I can't remember where I saw the chart as someone else linked me to it originally but I have seen a chart that shows that at lower stakes you can actually end up paying more rake than you would at higher stakes due to a rake cap at about 3% up to X amount of dollar/pounds/whatever. I can't remember the exact details but it convinced me to go for it. That and like everyone's said.... it's free money in a sense. If you could have it as opposed to not having it, you know what you'd do!

Don't think so but I can't say for sure. I've always deposited on any sites where I intended to play much at all.

You're basically asking is it worth it to get a little bit of money back. Simple answer. Yes. I only play MTT but I still make sure to have rakeback.

Well I don't do the freeroll thing. On any site where I intend to play any serious volume, I make a substantial initial deposit so I can start playing at a decent stake. Other sites where I intend to play only infrequently, like for CC buy-ins, I make a small deposit just to cover those. But regardless, if I'm going to play at all, I'm going to have a BR to start with.
