Playing live? Typically the dealer and other players will just correct the player. If he does it again, then they will berate him. If he continues to do it, he will most likely be lifted from his seat by a floor manager.
it happens and usually will be allowed to pull it back until it his turn , Buts hurts his action. Sometimes hard to see others cards. Free information on how to play the flop turn river
Aggravates me on occasion, but saves me money usually
I've had the floor demand the raise be kept when his turn came around.
I flopped a set, and he (drunk) yelled raise! Table gets upset and the dealer says, 'the raise will stand'. He was on my left, so I checked and he had action everywhere, I raised then (limit game btw) and got a nice pot.
In tournament play the player can be given a penalty if they do it repeatedly (happened at the final table of the Aussie Millions a few years back).
As for whether the bet stands or not, TDA rules say that the bet must stand if the action to that player has not changed (ie: nobody raises larger than the out of turn bet before the action reaches the player - checks, calls and folds aren't considered action-changing).
In a cash game there might be more leeway in terms of penalties but I'd expect the same standard to apply to whether the out of turn bet stands or not.
had that happen in a home game, everybody folds then when his turn he checks...was a 'friendly' game so i dint say anything, but sux...im watching him now, if he does it again im gonna raise hell, friendly game or not.
..ive done it once by accident..i raised preflop out of turn,,,i was in seat 9, he was in seat 1..so the dealer was in between blocking him from me and i had no idea he was there..so my raise was deemed ok to take back if i wanted, which i didnt
