i have two questions,
1) why is online poker banned in some parts of US?

2)why do some sites ban US players?

i really dont understand why these two things happen, any insight greatly appreciated, its interesting topic for me to find out more information.

1 it is banned in some parts because they feel it is gambling ( I think)
2 the sites ban some because if the state has made it illegal and enforcing it, the site can somehow become legally in trouble for enabling players to play.

changed thread title

Thank you, Debi. I also had a sinking feeling when I saw the original title. I've posted a link to the PPA site where we can send letters to representatives about online poker.

It is considered gambling by some (old fashioned IMO) but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

As said above the sites could get in trouble if they allowed US players. Hopefully that will change.

I wrote my representative and he told me he was not for online poker because under age people could use their parent's credit cards to play on the sites. Sounds like a lame excuse to me as if that was the case then they could use them for just about any type of site. Under age (you define what is under age) can get a checking account and credit cards and in some cases their parents do give them to them so that excuse does not work for me.

The US government is also concerned that they will not get their FAIR share in taxes.

Until the US Government is able to tax the offshore poker sites, US will ban them.. Look at all the casinos that are in all the different states now..they pay taxes, so they are able to gamble,, no tax no play is all it comes down to.
