Question on Rules?

Hi everyone
this is my first ever post, and look forward to some good discussions with you all, however at the minute i have a question to ask just been speaking to a guy i play poker with down here in yarmouth UK, he said he was watching some poker tournament and in it 1 player told another player that he wanted him to call and revealed that he had Ace King, anyway the tournament director went over to him and said that he lost the hand as he revealed what cards he had. anyway i have scoured the internet to find this rule and i cannat find it anywhere, can anyone confirm that this is a rule and if so do you have anything that i can print off to show the guy who runs the poker tournaments down here. I'm not great at live rules but check Rule 22 in tournaments (p30). As I read it the hand should have played out possibly followed by a warning or a penalty.

Here's a link to when this happen to DN. The player showed his cards and DN asked for a ruling. The player got no penalty but his raise was not allowed and the hand finished there.

Please note DN response as he says different poker rooms have different rules, so some may disallow the hand and DN would have won. Some people were mad at DN as they thought
he was angle shooting to get the hand disqualified.

I play (and have dealt) A LOT of live tournament games, and I personally think DN was in the right here. He is correct that almost every casino has variations on their 'house rules', and he did nothing wrong in this instance.

Regardless of DN's motivations, the other player involved quite simply should have been paying attention. Boys, when you have money on the line, you should probably know whats going on at the table.

All in all, I think the Pit boss made the best decision in this case

Whether it's disallowed or only a warning given by the pit boss I think it's important the casino stays consistant. If their rules are different than everyone else you gotta know before you hit the felt.

Welcome to CardsChat, sorry but this post is unrelated to your original thread, but I see that the other CCers have already answered that.

You say you play poker in Yarmouth, I'm assuming you mean the Kings Casino there. I've only been to Kings once, many years ago, playing blackjack before I got hooked on Poker last year. I'd be interested to hear from you as to where you play, and whether you play cash or tourney games, or just for fun etc. PM me with this if info you'd prefer.

I live in Norwich and whilst my BR is quite small, I only play online at the moment, and I am looking to gain experience in live games and meet fellow poker players to chat with and gain a better insight into the game... which are hard to find here.

Pavster has it, the hand has to play out. The player who exposed their cards may or may not be subject to a penalty (usually sitting out for a round) but that should never take effect until after the hand has been completed.

Note that this is a tournament-only thing too - most cash games will let you show cards if you want to provided the hand is heads up, which is why you see it happen a fair bit on High Stakes Poker, but not on wsop broadcasts (unless you're watching Jamie Gold's 2006 win). It'll also vary from casino to casino, some places might actually let you expose cards when you're heads up in a tournament. I'm pretty sure killing the offending player's hand before the pot has been awarded is wrong in any case though.
