You mean "The Theory of Poker"? Overall, a great book. Some consider it the "bible" of poker. But here's some things I learned about the book the hard way:
- It uses a lot of Stud and Draw poker in examples. I'd say hold'em is mentioned only half the time or so.
- It reads very much like a college textbook. Harsh text that is tiring on the eyes. Scientific tone to its teachings make it sometimes necessary to re-read portions immediately.
I actually got more out of Sklansky's "Small Stakes Hold'em". It mostly deals with Fixed Limit hold'em, but the concepts on figuring odds, etc. still apply to NLHE. An easier read, IMO.
Just my opinion and others may disagree with it.

Which was actually written by Ed Miller (fyi).
Also, while the book itself is great, from what I know of the OP it will be fairly worthless to him. Better off with a selection from here.

I think Skylanski is a great tool to keep in your head providing you commit his ideas to memory. I don't nessecarily follow them but they are wonderful to know. I believe Chris Ferguson would probably be an example of one who follows Skylanski with his own twists of course.

If you're serious about playing poker, then I would definitely pick up this Sklansky book as well as the Low Stakes one by Ed Miller and then the Hold'em for Advanced Players by Sklansky and Malmuth. Some have and may continue to argue that you should read this once you're more familiar to the game of Poker, assuming that you're a rookie All of these books will definitely take a lot of time to get through. I'd recommend reading them several times and go back to go over specific sections as you continue to work on your game.
