ok me and my friends got in a huge argument over this hand. Ok, Mike has Ace-7, and Jack has Ace-Q. The flop comes out and it is 8-8-Ace. So right now they both have 2 pair, aces and eights. Then the turn is a King, and the river is a 5. I thought that Jack wins with the 2 pair and queen kicker over Mike's 7. Some of my friends think the same. But some of my other friends thinks its a split pot because the best kicker is the king which is in the community, so they both have it. So, is it a split pot, or does Jack win?

Its a split - because the best hand wins .... and best hand in that case is A,A,K,8,8.

I can tell you even worst situation - one of my bad beats

A,J vs A,Q

flop:

A,J,4

Turn :

K

River:

K

so my 2 pairs at the begining .... got busted at the river

A,A,K,K,Q and I lost with A,A,K,K,J :(

cost me over 200$

jack is the guys name, thats not what he had. ok thanks, but how come it doesnt seem like you ever see split pots when two people have the same pair if you can get a kicker from the community?

Split pot king kicker. Simplu use seven cards to make the best hand doesn't matter if you use both your cads or none. The king becomes a community kicker:icon_thum

That's called counterfeiting and is another good reason not to slowplay 2 pair.

I really don't have anything new to add, just to agree w the other postings. The best 5 cards win, regardless of anything else. The king counts for both hands as it is a community card. So split it uppppppppp!

Play Omaha if you want to HAVE to play 2 hole cards, otherwise, the best 5 cards make the hand and its a split pot.

Yup, best 5 cards from your seven win, therefore....if there is a Royal Flush on the board, don't throw your hand away as you will split the pot with the remaining players. The best hand possible is a Royal Flush made up of the 5 cards on the board.

Equally, if you are in a real money game, don't raise in this situation, cause you will just increase the rake to the house (and get everybody angry at you).

Some subtleties of play which I will doubtless remember if I ever actually see a Royal Flush on the board. he-he

Otherwise, I love the gambit of making a big bet or going all-in on what is highly likely to be a split pot. If everybody gets mad at "increasing the rake", screw 'em. I've seen too many folds in that situation not to give it a shot. Even if it ends up being a split for the survivors, didn't we all just grab a substantially bigger piece of the pie by prompting a fold(s)?

But without fail, whenever I do that and everyone calls, and the pot does split, I'll catch hell and a round of "lmao"'s for being so "dumb". I just quietly sit and wait for my next opportunity to thin the herd.

The one thing I say to people when I prompt a fold and get the sarcastic " nice pot" is its more than you got then.

Yea, the best 5 cards are the winners, if u both have a high kicker on the board it will be a spilt pot, but im sure u know that now.

Definately split. Those are the worst. Especially when you are playing at home and there are alot of chips in the pot that you have to split! :)
