I have mainly played tournaments and sngs since starting to play poker but I`m starting try my hand at ring games. I played a short session of .25/.50c NLHE at a 6 handed table last night (mainly because I couldn`t find a 9 seater table at those blinds) and I was wondering what advice you could offer to a relative novice at ring games, especially when playing short-handed (I`m used to playing 9 or 10 seat tourneys/sngs).

Even from that short session I can see that short-handed probably has more potential for profit but would you recommend I play at a full table because that`s what I`m used to or would you say it really doesn`t matter?

Finally what would you consider to be a decent profit per hour at those limits? In limit poker I know I`d be looking to win maybe 3 or 4 big bets per hour, what about NLHE?

play the level your comfortable at... try a different site or wait on a waiting list
6 handed is a different game and nl is a different world than limit

I am also predominately a SNG player but i do dip into ring games from time to time although on the site I play its is normally 6 seater SNG's. In ring games I prefer the 10 seaters - just because you have more time to "choose" a hand betweeen blinds :p

Anyway as to a decent profit - I do base my ring game play around a profit / hour basis, rather I set myself a goal and stick to it. I read about this when I first joined CC an it seems to work well.

For instance I join a game and say to myself " OK Ive bought in for $40 so im out when I hit $60 or an hour is up". Sometimes this takes a couple of minutes :D (got to love those donks) or after an hour you still havent made anything significant (or in my case lost part of it ) but I stop there having reached my "goal".

Far to often I feel like im on a roll and without forcing my self to stop end up loosing part or all of my winnings (this was pre CC) so this has stood me in good stead.

However I restate thet I am not a ring game player but looking at my stats for the past month I am doing just over 4 BB per hour

Well Idk how large your bankroll is but .25/.50 NL is probably a very high starting point for as you said a novice to ringgames.
Depending on what site you are on you might want to move down in stakes until your comfortable. As for 6 handed yes there is more chance for profit but there is more chance for losing your stack too. It has higher variance which if you are a good player you can use to your advantage. As for the BB per hour I think you should probably do it by per 100 hands...which I thinka good winrate at 50nl is 2 or 3BB/100 hands...
I could be wrong cause its a higher limits than my bankroll allows. Hope this helps a little.
