yeah...we usually play "black/red" at our cash games...but its more like for $1 or 2$ a hand...not 50K...
The one thing I don't understand is the note taking by Ivey with respect to the prop betting.
I think it is all show to get discussions like this going.
No he is keeping treack of who won what so at the end they square up or know who owes who.
They spend so much time fiddling with their side bets I no longer care to watch the program; plus I doubt seriously they are playing with their own money because they treat it so cavalierly. How much do they get paid to be TV stars? Hmmmmm!!
The program was better earlier, but now they have jazzed it up and took away my interest. I guess I'm just a spoil-sport -- I'd rather watch WPT and WSOP, even all the old re-runs.
N.D. -- I guess what I mean is it doesn't seem likely they would treat their own money that way. I am emminently suspicious of a TV programs where poker players are on the tube supposedly betting with their own money and bet up the pot to a million cash dollars - to me that lacks credibality. It's a show, pure and simple, put on to entertain us. I would emagine they get a decent income from their appearences otherwise why would they keep showing up?? Like alot of TV viewers, I record the program while I sleep and watch it during the day so the commercials get double showings and I say the income is good for the producers. If those poker players don't get paid - they would be stupid and I don't think they are. If nothing else I would expect they are guaranteed to NOT loose any money.
This is my take on the program. It would be a better show IMHO if it was a SnG format instead of a cash game as mentioned by EAN.
the sng format is soooo boring, the cash format is the only time I watch the show. Honestly these people are all mega millionaires how the hell do you think they arnt playing with their own money??? LOOOOLLL.... jesus
they do prop bets because many of them are gamblers at heart too and have the massive bankroll to support it, they want to make money as they play poker, prop bets are very fun too.
:dito:How many times someone will run into the glass door leading to the bar, all kinds of things.
:dito: This is their own money. It's hard for those of us who don't have this kind of money to comprehend but it's theirs. Prop bets are very common, we do them at the casino I play at all the time. We bet on the 72 winning the hand, how many times someone will run into the glass door leading to the bar, all kinds of things.
Yes they probably get paid to be on the show but that doesnt mean it isnt there money. It is not ALL their own money. Since you know how common prop bets are, then you also know even more common is the "deal making" that goes on. And part of those deals for for their "appearance fees", since they are enabling the show to go on TV, and the show has very little overhead compared to most shows, etc.
Some have admitted it, but the show does not want to widely publicized.
