When do your opponents classify you as pro? To you, what is a pro? In your own words.

Pro for me is one who played many many hands.

Meaning he has vast experience on his name.

Compared to an amateur who is just starting out.

For an example a pro would use higher BRM that is usually 100 BI for MTTS and in contrast the amateur usually had lower BRM that is below 50.

I think the meaning of Pro is the same for any sport and any profession. It is someone who makes a large portion of their income from the activity that they are involved in. When it comes to poker I do not meet that criteria so I am by definition an amateur.

I think to call PROFESSIONAL primarily have to be a person too disciplined (studio, food, gym, etc. ..) good bankroll management, have made several final tables clearly be a regular live or online depending on which this classification and most important to me is to have much discretion when it comes to social level as the poker just is starting to look well seen.

Once he or she makes a decent living from poker I would consider them a pro. I am talking a decent living which would mean you can comfortably support yourself through poker.

A "PRO"fession

When do your opponents classify you as pro? To you, what is a pro? In your own words.
I make a living playing poker and have for some time. I am a "pro". There are some people that would disagree because of the amount of money I have lost to them but in the last five years the number of people that can say that are about 90% less that the previous 15 years... It cost me a lot of money to be a pro..lol

Put simply a professional is a player who has poker as their main source of income.

Pro stand for Professional. Profession means job. So the ones who only play poker go generate their normal income, those are pro's.
Semi-pro's are those are make some money but still depend on their normal day job as their main source of income.
All the rest are amatures.

This is a very interesting question, I would simply classify a pro who makes their living at playing cards, with no other income coming in.. It is like any other job out there you work at it and try to become the best to earn the most money. You can play and earn some money but if you are still paying bills with a job you are an amateur...

Wouldn't the definition of a pro(professional) be someone who plays as a profession? So I guess if you can sustain yourself playing poker you're a pro.

a professional is a member of a profession. the term also describes the standards of education and training that prepare members of the profession with the particular knowledge and skills necessary to perform the role of that profession. most professionals are subject to codes of conduct ethical and moral obligations. so i feel it is not necessary to make a living at poker to be a pro but to have the expertise and knowledge of the game to participate at any level as a journeyman to be a pro.

If you only play poker for money in your life (poker without money isn't a poker) then you can be sure, you are a pro player.

You are a Pro if a source of your income is from playing Poker. If you fill out a tax return that states your income is from Poker you can consider yourself a Pro. Even if that means Semi-Pro.
