All of the legit reporting sites will honor opt-out requests demanded by the sites. To my knowledge only PokerStars
demands they allow opt-outs, but I've seen some offer it for other sites as well. When you search for a PS player who has opted-out, you won't see any stats as I recall, or if so, just basic ones like number of tournaments played or something. No ROI or detailed wins/losses.
It's not a big privacy thing IMO, especially for tournaments. If you were a live tournament player, your results would be published and reported anyway by most casinos
and those who blog. These sites aren't invading your privacy or getting in through a back door, they're simply watching the tournament results, which anybody can do.
What is more controversial is data mining of cash game hands. That's a hot topic although less relevant these days with the demise of FT and PTR giving in to Stars' demand to stop mining them. They still mine some of the smaller sites, but I don't thing the market is nearly as bug or lucrative as it was pre-BF.

It didn't change by itself, a mod changed it for clarity.
