With some of us gearing up to head out to Vegas soon this is a good time to review tips for playing live poker.

Read this guide:

Live Poker Tips

There are some great tips in that guide. I can't tell you how many times I have seen players just throw out an over-size chip and not stating their bet. This can be a real issue in some tournaments where very large chips look similar to smaller ones. You are stuck with the big bet - and have to hope nobody calls unless you have a monster.

Good table etiquette is important - we discussed that previously and got a lot of response.

Pay attention and don't forget to enjoy the game!

This situation of using the cell phone while not playing a hand is classic. I think most of the people who do this are not paying attention to the moves of others to try to make some mental observations. Maybe who do this are focused only on themselves (obviously has its exceptions).

i can understand most of the verbal calls , and see a timer clock to make calls, but all in all i think if i were to attend a big tournament ,i would definitely arrive a few days earlier, submerse myself around most all players and if allowed to the rooms to observe them play carefull attention to the players at the tables and the language/slang used as they played hands. Also if they offer which i believe they do , I would take a preparation course prior to playing to familarize myself with ettiquite, and the games offered prior to playing which should be available at each casino before playing,This would also give anyone a little more feeling at home other then walking in not having a great grasp of a real game and being taken advantage of, Which the more advanced players would notice but just may be afraid of ,being your a newbie
Will do this 1 day , if not sooner

This guide is wonderful for those who want to migrate from live poker to live poker, it is necessary to be agile, skillful, fast, not to disturb other players, separate their antes, separate their blinds, not talk at the time of the game, correct form and pay close attention at the moment of the bet not to put more stacks in the pot because once their stacks are put in the pot they are no longer yours. Among other things, be polite and courteous to everyone in every aspect of life. An ignorant, arrogant, arrogant, will never get anywhere.

never played live... hioping that will chage at some poin? so thank you for the tips and insights.the most prominent advise i hear is... JUST ASK! ask the dealer when/what/how. it will make your and every1else life easier. would make sence? right? =)
would be intersting how I stack up agains live players. Most of the time people say that liove is weaker but would it be really?

I particularly prefer online games, maybe because it's more comfortable and the fact that you'll have access to much more information from everyone at the tables through HUD. However I believe that many topics listed here, etiquette, watch the tournament clock, not drink during the game, know the level of the tournament and its level, are valid for live and online. I think they complement each other, but as I mentioned earlier, I prefer online. :D:D:D

one of the best tips is positive mental attitude and not make mistakes, this weekend I learned a great lesson in the final table of the league, which won the first place was not the player who was chip leader, nor the one who more hands came in or the player who had more luck, he just won the one that made the least mistakes, always kept a medium chip average and played his hands very safe, he was never a chip leader, nor did he make a lot of bluffs, he just played correctly and did not make mistakes and that's why he won, that left me a great lesson

DONT TALK TO FRIENDLY OLD LADIES before the game, they read your soul and suddenly turn into poker games against you.

Just relax, im always nervous the first hand I actually play, sometimes like a few orbit to go by, Once you get the first hand in, its gets better you relax, and start getting into the groove of the game. Ive busted out on the first hand of a MTT before so I got that out of my system and Ive FT a few (never won one outright). Just play poker and most people there chit chat you up regardless so you interact. If you do something that looks good poker wise suddenly people want to talk poker and so on. It really just the time from going to getting the game going. ITS JUST LIKE A ROLLERCOASTER, ONCE THE GAME STARTS YOURE IN

pay very close attention to players stack sizes especially when facing a decision , you don't want to call an all in just to find out that the player has more chips than u thought :top:

When your an online player don't tighten up it happens a lot because people can actually see you when you're playing. Making you less likely to play aggressively. Then again don't call 5bet jams with pocket jacks and sometimes consider folding queens in this spot. You're used to a lot of trash being played against you. You won't see that as much live tournaments

Very useful tips. When I was playing poker in zhyvuyu, badly that I was not a member of the card chat and did not know about this article, it would be useful to me at that time.

Interesting article, especially about etiquette and chip handling. As I have already said, my live poker experience is limited to home games with family and friends, so, if the opportunity ever arrises, I would be completely ignorant to all these facts.

The drinking part is something to consider too. Booze tends to lead to hero calls indeed!

Maybe try to mix in a cheap tourney with a not so great structure just so that you can get your feet wet! I usually play a cheap, small daily tourney just to get myself in gear!

If you have never played live, brace yourself for the loss of all privacy, they pack you in so tight that it is even hard to look at your cards without others seeing it. If you are going to play a cash game prepare for massive rake...
you will never complain about online rake again. :)

I never played live poker. I think I could not - count my chips, count the opponent's chips, hide my emotions, there are no statistical programs.
All this seems very difficult for me

I've never played live poker tournament, but I agree with most of these tips. Especially with the concept of paying attention, knowing when it's your turn to act, and of course posting the blinds or antes. Also having with you a card protector is of high importance, as we've seen situations where the dealer mistakenly mucked a player's hand.

I have too little experience playing live poker to write something smart here. ;)

But to read this article and comments of the players was probably useful. Perhaps I will still need this foreign experience. After all, learn better on other people's mistakes, to do less of their own, and for their money. :D

I wish I would have read this about 5 years ago when I started playing live. I would have saved myself a lot of money. I'll admit it, I've lost/didn't get proper value because of the chip rule. and even got my hand mucked cause of the situation about the cold beer. Granted I've learned a lot since then, and it doesn't happen anymore. Gotta pay attention for sure.
