I was looking at the PPA website today and from what I read under the recent news it looks like the government is still holding on to the fact NOT to let U.S citizens play online poker.

They are trying to get all banks not to let there customers use debit or credit cards and not letting customers cash checks from online poker sites. It looks like we have until December 12, 2007 before a final decision is made. Form what I have read, it doesn't look good for American players

How would that be, since most sites put no identifying marks on the checks to signify that they are a poker site?

Routing codes ID the issuing bank and account.

Routing codes ID the issuing bank and account.

Which wouldn't really matter, since the accounts will be in the same name as identified on the checks, none of which identify themselves as coming from poker sites.

Surely all the relevant authority would have to do is maintain a database somewhere that says "XYZ Holdings = Poker Site" though?

When it comes to money, where there's a will there's a way. I'm sure the voting politicians are just waiting for the right payoff from the overseas poker sites. No payoff, no online poker for americans.

I sure am glad they legalized casinos in Detroit!! Home sweet dirty home.

Well thankfully the Government doesn't automatically have the right to set up and or maintain such a list. They have thought of it but there are a number of laws that would make such list problematic at best.

The funny but sad thing about the proposed regulation is that it is clear that even the Federal Reserve thinks that Congress did a pi$$ poor job of writing an enforcible law.

At it's core, reading the UIGEA law into reality given existing laws, would give or force all banks and money transferers to decide if a transaction was based in part of whole from an illegal gambling activity. This would force every bank to be a judge and jury about the legality of every one of the untold numbers for money transfers done daily.

Thankfully there is a little piece of paper that in my opinion says they can do that, it of course is called the Constitution.

The deciding of legal issues is a uniquely governmental activity. The government can not contract this out to other people nor force anyone else to do it's job for it.

Even if it could, there is no due process procedures set up in the current regulatory scheme, in fact as an offer to the banks and credid card companies the UIGEA law says, "hey if you do this we say you can't be suied if you F it up."

So keep playing poker and keep paying extra to deposit your money on-line to play poker. If you get a little pieved about it call or write your representitive. If you are a winning poker player and feel like contributing to the cause then by all means find a worth organization that supports your goals and send them a check.

If you are really pi$$ed off let me know I know how you can help,

I want to say that I am overracting but I seriously don't think I am. Everything I read sounded negative. Would you even buy in if your a U.S player because of the risk of us not being able to get our money out??

its fine let the goverment keep trying to find ways to stop us from playing. Bottom line is the sites will find ways to pay us, hell if they do this we might be getting cashier checks from the sites next.

just dont jump the gun everyone like everyone did when the bill was 1st passed. If you remember the only reason this bill was passed was because it was attached to a must sign bill. I dont think this will get signed, just have faith in PPA that they will continue to fight for us.

Been there and done that. I'm a US player, lots of us here are, and I have bought in and cashed out on multiple occasions and multiple sites since passage of the original law. I see nothing in the "recent news" that's really recent or newsworthy. Just rehashing the same old themes.

Here is something recently put on Cardplayer.com discussing the new UIGEA proposed legislation.

"Nothing is going to happen for quite a while. The Agencies want feedback until Dec. 12, 2007. Then there is Christmas and the New Year holiday. Then there is the task of digesting the comments and rewriting the regulations. That will probably take another six to nine months. Then the Agency proposes that financial institutions have six months to create policies and procedures. Six months just won’t do it. Perhaps in 2009, financial institutions might have policies and procedures. Of course, by that time, Congress will have made online gambling legal in the U.S."

As a Canadian I am glad that I do not have to worry about this right now, hopefully never.

However, I just do not get the logic on this. It is okay to go to CBS Sportsline and other football sites and spend hundreds of dollars playing fantasy football, where you win money from other fantasy players, but you cannot play online poker? I don't really see much of a difference here - is it because law-makers consider one a game of chance and one a game of skill?

I think everyone should know the website for PPA, so if you have it you should post it.
