a9 vs 10/10 flop aa10. can some1 settle an argument about the odds of a9 winning this? i can approximate the odds for the obvious 4 outs (a999) this being about 16%. the debate was over how much to add for the possibility of river pairing turn. shouldnt it b less than 1% (45 cards left so my rough math was 6% of 11% or about .7%)

Why are you trying to work this out yourself? Just use an odds calculator.

After the flop the A9 has 4 outs for the turn (A999) but after the turn (assuming no A 9 or T) the A9 hand adds 3 outs for a total of 7 on the river. I use PokerStove: Poker Software and Analysis for equity calculations like this. The one above can be found by looking at the table in the pic.

If you want to do a rough calc in your head then something like this:

4 outs on turn (1 ace and 3 nines) and 7 outs on river (1 ace, 3 nines and 3 of the blank turn card to pair the board).

When doing different outs on turn then river i use 2 x turn outs + 2 x river outs = %. Whether or not other ppl use this i have no idea but i was very bored on the bus home from school one day and decided to figure out something that worked for outs that change on turn/river and this seemed very accurate.

So (4 x 2) + (7 x 2) = 22%

And yea if you compare it to the calculator it is a pretty damn good estimate that takes about 5 seconds to figure out.
