Is POKERTRACKER worth $55?

I've been thinking about getting PokerTracker to see better stats from my game & use the info to improve upon, etc. I play at UB, Stars, & Full Tilt, which are supported, and Titan, which is not. I'd say my play is half ring games & half SnG's, but I may start playing more MTT's.

I've bought software before (poker-related & other) that has turned out to be a bad deal and I've read posts where people have touched a bit on PokerTracker. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if PokerTracker is a good value for someone who's serious about poker like me? (I know FP uses it. Any others?)

Download it, use it, and if you dont like it don't pay for it - you get 1,000 hands free before you need to register and pay for it.

Since it has a free trial, what do you have to lose? I heard nothing but good things about it.

In conjunction with PAHud, PT has won me a lot more than $55.

... and there's a free version of PAHud: GameTime+.

I'm very drunk. But this I believe is undisputable.

God, I'm drunk. Go ahead; tease me.

Yes it is absolutely worth it... Be prepared to think pokertracker speaks a foreign language though, because it takes some getting used to. The abbreviations the software uses are numerous and so are the statistics but after you get comfortable with it the software becomes an invaluable tool for improving your game.

How do you deal with syncronizing your results from 2 different computers?

Pokertracker uses Microsoft Access as the basis for the database. When keeping 2 databases all you have to is "import" the databases into each other. It is actually quite simple to do in the software. Just export the data to a file send it over to the other pc and import. This is assuming you are wondering how to import hand histories when the hand is only saved on the computer you played the hand from. Pretty simple to do though ;)

I'm embarrassed to say that what I do now is save my hand history to a memory stick and actually "walk" the file to the desktop.

Well, I broke down and purchased PokerTracker yesterday after I did all I could do with 1000 histories. Looks like a great purchase already. I was able to put in about 7500 saved hand histories (that unfortunately leaves out Titan & UB which offer no hard drive saves) and I've found out some interesting things about myself as a ring player:
  • I'm looser than I thought I was. Not sure if it is my own misconception or that I'm just adapting to the looser low-limit games.
  • I consider myself mostly a Limit HE ring player, but I see I've done better at NL games. Not sure if I have enough NL hands to make a fair comparison, though.
  • I love 6-player tables, but I do better at 9-10 max tables. I kinda figured this one would be true but I was in denial.
Not fond of having to manually enter a lot of SnG & tourney info, but I guess it's a must if I want to analyze my tournament game. Also, GameTime+ is pretty cool but I will have to get comfortable with the HUD that seems distracting but helpful.

Thanks to all who responded. I'll probably be asking some questions & opinions about settings in the future (like player rating rules, etc.), so get your thinking caps on! Thanks again! :hello:

Might be worth e-mailing their respective supports and asking for the histories - I did it with Stars when I first got PT and they mailed me a link that I could d/l the histories from (mind you, it wasn't very many hands).

Beyond the simple stuff look at the community software thread. There is software that had taken people hundreds of hours to create (in some cases) that is free for downloading. Customize your software and it will be like customizing a stock motorcycle..more zip.

This thread is from 2006, so the price has been raised slightly since. But yes PT4, which is the current version, is still worth the money, if you are serious about online poker and want to play for profit :)

WOW!!!!

SICK!!!! bump.

But, a good question.

If you know how to use the stats you get from any tracking software, then the investment is absolutely worth it.

I remember a hand in a tournament (where I came in 2nd out of 800 and this was one of the major pots that helped me become one of the chip leaders) where I had an agro player who raised me AI OTR. His stats showed he was doing a lot of raising AI OTR, but the number of hands he did this with meant that he was bluffing a larger percent of the time. So I called with my medium-strength hand and caught his missed draw.

Without the tracker I would not have known this and probably would have folded. This tourny alone paid for my tracker.

Someone just found an other 10 (actually 15)+ years old thread... I see it often... wonder how they find these...

Never used PT, only HM from the popular ones, worth, but it depends what you play and the level where you play.... personally I don't really need these, follow different path.... still can make some profit.... so these softwares are not a guarantee, you will play better...

These historical threads are not that bad (not that I recommend digging them up). TIL: CC had an affiliation with PT.
It is also remarkable how little PT's price has increased.

It depends on your poker goals and your limit. If you play very seldom and low levels and you play only to have fun, i think its not useful. But if you would develop your game, this is a chance to improve your game. Especially if you know how to handle the software and the statistics. Its not the on and only solutions but to gain the last % of the development of your skills i think it is very useful. You can win big tourneys wihtout any software i think, but it is very clear that is much more work. I think if you have to player exactly the same game skills, the one with poker tracker would win on the long run, much more with this helping tool.

I looked into P.T. and other software programs and the price I would have to pay for these just doesn't make sense as most of the time I only play free-rolls and micro/low stakes Poker.
So It just is not viable, I play for the enjoyment of the game, I do not want to make a living from Poker, and they only track the hands you are involved with. They may give you a slight edge as they will tell you how your opponents are playing in certain situations, like how many times they limp, or raise or 3 x bet, but they are not a magic tool that can help you win every hand.
The Information they track can help your decision making, but in the end that decision is still down to you, Personally I would not like to become reliant on this type of software, as you can not use it in a Live game and you might feel lost without it. Poker is always evolving and sometimes there may be situations you find yourself in where it would tell you to fold to a bet on the flop or turn, when in fact you still hold the best hand with 2 over cards like K/Q or A/K and even if you miss on the river, if it is checked down you could still be holding the best hand. Poker is a game where sometimes you have to rely on your gut instincts, P.T. Software does not have gut instincts, it relies on facts!

When the fun Stops, STOP!
