I dont have it but am thinking about getting it. PT is just something that keeps a lot of stats? how much does it cost? anything else i should know?

55 bucks. completely worth it. youll save $55 in the leaks you find after a while, guaranteed

You'll save more than $55.00 just in the time you spend fooling around with PT rather than losing money at the tables.
But seriously folks... it's well worth it if you want to improve your game, and you can download the complete program free. It's only limited by the number of hands you can store in your database. 1000 I think. Not nearly enough to do any good, but plenty good to see how the software works.

Can anyone that hs PT go to PS and take a screenshot?

PT shows nothing itself while you're actaully in play, are you thinking of the HUD programs that you can use with PT like PAHUD and GT+?

So PT is a program taht you turn on, play stars and it records all your hands and then you can open it later and view them and stats?

Yep.

It's actually a fancy hand history parser that stores all the details in a MS Access database. It does have a hand replayer, but I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for that. You gain alot more by looking at trends and betting patterns; what works and what doesn't. Within a day of the time I downloaded PT I stopped limping with suited connectors from any position but the button and the blinds.

There's nothing unusual there. Lots of software providers do this so you can test it out. They safeguard their product by limiting it in some way. In the case of PT, they only allow you to parse 1000 hands before you're required to pay for the product. When you do so, they will e-mail you an activation code which removes the 1000 hand restriction.
If you're thinking about using PT in the future, or even if you don't, I recommend saving all you're hand histories. I didn't start using PT until this past summer, but because I had saved all my HH's I immediately had a database of 20,000 hands or so going back almost a year. It would have been more, but because I play at FTP, most of the hands I played for the first year were deleted from my hand history folder after 30 days. This is the default setting determined by FTP, but you can change this at any time by going to the options menu in the main lobby. You can just set it for 1000 days if you like. Once you purchase PT however, you won't need to worry about this anymore, because each hand is saved to a new location after processing.

i won a copy of pokertracker playing in a THF game. i opened it up, registered it - and haven't touched it since - lol

looked to me like a lot of set-up involved - true or false?

Try out poker office before deciding what to get, I think poker tracker is a good software too, but I just like poker office better.

It is quite daunting to start with.

10 minutes of reading and 10 minutes of fiddling about with it and you're generally set, though.

I really like the look of PokerOffice, it's $80 but they'll give you a free licence if you start a cash account with their bonus code. I'm about to move over to Titan just to take advantage of that offer & get me the program for free.

Personally PokerOffice looks like it's going to be easier to use, although I work in IT the PokerTracker website put me off, I can see the program being fiddly to learn and I just can't be bothered.

Yeh Id agree with that, I found Pokeroffice a lot easier to use, thought Pokertracker was a bit cumbersome but it could be my tech skills

I totally agree - I am a pokeroffice convert, as I hated having to use plugin scrape tools and other such things with PT... (not sure if you still have to, havent looked at it for about a year)

it is more expensive, but it is 100000% worth it. Ive been using it now since version 1.0, and its the ONLY piece of internet software that I am happy paying for to be honest, I have saved myself the $80 cost countless times over......

download it and try it for free for up to 500 hands - it is a bit daunting at first but when you get used to the data its worth its weight in gold.

(from a techies point of view) The data in pokeroffice is MsQL compliant and I have it linked into a "homebrew" database to link my full stats from all sites (one feature it annoyingly doesnt have) and plot items such as bankroll transferrance (site to site), relative profit margins on cash and tournament play on different sites etc. etc.

The PT data i never did play about with in too much detail as the interface was a bit "crappy" for my likings, but if you are into your data manipulation (and I am, how sad) then try pokeroffice, cant be beat...

No problem at all mate, by profession I am an oracle g4 programmer, but use filemaker for my personal projects - and MSaccess occasionally when the need arises (allthough I cant stand microsofts "user friendly" interfaces!

When you have installed PokerOffice make sure that you default it to store data in sql format and you should be set to go!

Since you come to the US so often I will just wait til you are in Atlanta and let you come set me up and train me lol.

Does anyone find either hand history programs like PT or interface programs helpful for MTTs? I've never tried it for that. The situation is so different in each hand, I wonder if it makes any sense to analyze it that way.
