I'm looking for help here as I really like this site. The download client is giving me fits. In tournament play my client will often freeze up for a period of time between 5 to 10 seconds. These freezes often prevent me from seeing how a hand ended. Other times the freezes will last well over 10 seconds and my hands will time out. I have to close multiple pop-up windows informing me the server is responding slowly. No shit, pokerroom?

I have emailed support about this numerous times. They have offered advice ranging from blaming it on my computer (all TEN of them -- I have a home lab for my business), blaming it on having my browser open, blaming it on Norton Antivirus, and blaming it on the firewall I don't have. I have tried closing every application and process on my XP Pro machine that will still allow me to run their download client and I still have these problems.

Support has given up on me as a customer. I have logged many hours on the phone with reps that sometimes barely speak English. Other times they are just plain stubborn and mean. The last one I talked to asked me to withdraw my funds and uninstall the software. Yeah, really.

I used to love playing sit and gos there. I do not like the Stars 9-seat tables or the length of time it takes to play a game on Stars because of the slow blind schedule (compared to pokerroom).

I am connected to the 'Net via cable modem and I have no problems with any other site, except for sites that are Poker Room skins (like Poker Shootout, Hollywood, Hold'em, etc.). I have tried running the download client on desktops, laptops, and powerful servers. I even tried from my brother's house on his machine and the same problem. Yet Poker Room says I'm the only one that claims to have this problem.

The most common answer is to use the java client, but that thing is just awful, but for other reasons. Am I in this boat alone or does anyone else have problems with Poker Room?

Thanks,

E

Play the turbos then?

Seriously, I don't understand why people continue to play on sites with crap support (except maybe Party just because of all the fish).

I think Pokerroom are having server issues recently though - yours isn't the first complaint I've read on the subject.

Play the high-speed tables on Stars then. (Turbo games only increases the blinds on tourneys faster) Why people stay with crappy sites that don't provide support is beyond me. What's more important - the speed of the game or actually being able to play without being disconnected all the time?

Now now Henry...If your post wasn't so long maybe people wouldn't browse through it......

So the java client is the non-download client, why not just call it a non download then instead of JAC+VA.

That's really weird Elvis, it definitely sounds like a connection issue though. It may well be Norton, although unlikely. I honestly can't think why you'd be allowed to play for a certain amount of time and then lose connection... unless it was your internet connection having problems or a router, have you tried fiddling with the settings for that?

Never had any problems with pokerroom myself so maybe firewall or anti virus software could be giving you problems.Suprised that the support staff were no help as i've always found them excellent but one mans poison...
Hope you get it sorted out asthe low level games are fish city.

The online forum at Poker Room is filled with similar complaints numbering in the dozens, I have discovered. Some people have the problem and some do not. One user suggests it may have to do with how many router hops you are away from their server and the path you take from your ISP.

I was once a member of another forum that got a weekly cash-added game at a Poker Room skin, Poker Shootout. That lasted less than two months. No one could stand the constant latency problems and that was the end of that. It is all very curious to me that some people claim to have never having experienced a freeze and I can never log on without having the problem. I never have a lick of trouble anywhere else, except maybe bodog, but that's only because that software is klunky as hell and a whole other story entirely.

I have the same problem at Poker.com. I always just chalked it up to having a computer that is pretty old. I don't play at Pokerroom but it sounds like the same thing that happens to me. I'm getting a new computer in the next few months, I'll let you know if that solves the problem for me.

Their software is less stable than others. I also think their servers or network is overloaded. That being said, it is still my favorite place to play. I have seen less questionable hands/players there than anywhere else. I would rate the average play their better than Stars or Party. For comparisons sake, I play mostly $4 $400 max NL.

I like that PR tracks your wins/losses per table, per day, and cumulatively. I like that their bonuses are easy to clear. Mostly, though I like the level of play I see there.

Why don't you use a different PokerRoom skin then if traffic is causing you problems? If you run along to Holdempoker you might just catch the 20% reload promo...
