I just returned from a Carnival Cruise and played for the first time on one of the electric poker tables. I have to say it was interesting. To me it doesn't have the "feel" of a real game and seems more like I'm playing on a computer. They ran a $1 - $2 game, but I never caught the table at the right time to play. I was able to play in a couple of their sit-in-goes which were more like turbo games. I'd really prefer a "live" game, but since it was the only option, it did satisfy my addiction (lol). Just want to know what other people think of the electronic table games.

I have heard about these, but I have never seen one in real life. For anyone wanting to know what they look like....

What I want to know. How do you see your own cards without the whole table being able to look? Hold your hand over the screen the whole time or what?

Your cards on your screen are face down. You cup your hands over them like when you look at real cards, and the pressure on the screen in this area causes just the edges of the cards to "peel up" so you can see them privately. They go back down when you release the pressure.

I played them on a vacation, tourneys and cash game. Although at first I was sceptic, I have to say it was great ! More hands due to faster shuffling and dealing, but still live atmosphere. You see your opponents exact stacks, just like online, which makes playing a lot easier. Sure people will say that a live game needs a dealer and chips, but honestly it was real fun for me playing at the Pokerpro Tables and I didn´t miss a thing ;)

Regards,
Boro

i used to play at these all the time in montreal,

they're a lot faster and you don't have dealer screwups and you don't have to tip the dealer. also there's no one acting out of turn, etc

I've seen them in AC. They're alright. I feel like more people are with them because there are no chips - feels more like online poker. Give me real chips cards and felt any day.

I saw both the full table and heads-up versions at Mohegan Sun in CT before they re-opened their real poker room. There was a ring game going on the full table but no action heads-up. They seemed OK but I didn't have a chance to play.

I'll be cruising Alaska on the Star Princess in about three weeks. They have one of these on board. I'll report when I get back as long as I don't get abducted by Somali pirates.

I'll warn you all ahead of time that I'll think they're great if I win. If I don't win, well ....

They had these on a carnival cruise I went on last year and I never saw a game going. They only ran sit n goes on them and the most I saw was 6-7 people waiting for a game to start, and then bailing out when they couldn't get 10.

As a live dealer, these tables make me a little sad in the pants.

I can see how they've got their uses though. Crown in Melbourne was one of the first casinos to install them and while I haven't played on them myself, by all accounts they've been pretty successful. The also allow the casino to offer lower limit games or games like PLO that they mightn't necessarily spread with a live dealer because it's faster to deal and cheaper to run.

I've played them a couple of times at crown and I have to say I'm not a fan of them to be honest. If I'm going to play live i want the feel of cards and chips. Great way for a casino to cut over-heads but as I player If I want computer genreated actionI'll stick to online play.

My 2 cents

I'm a dealer too and I don't think we have to worry to much about these tables. Seems that the overall preference is that if a player comes to the casino, they want to feel cards and chips and play with a real dealer.

I love them.

I used to make $1000 on average every weekend playing them at Mohegan Sun when they had them up there. People play like shit on them exactly for the reason that it doesn't "feel" like a real game. They get dissociated from the money when it has no physical representation (ie, chips) and play stupid - like they're playing a video game.

It also speeds up the game a good deal - probably 20-30% faster for NLHE, 50% faster for Omaha.

Very interesting technology will never stop surprising us. I would have to say that if im not home I would rather play regular live poker but i do think its definitely a nice idea especially for those really rocky cruise type ships.

Just returned from Las Vegas last week, and Excalibur has them. They claim to be only ones in vegas with them. The game play is quicker and its a nice setup...would like to see more features like the abiitly to just hit a button to pot raise. They do offer a "rabbit" option to see what would have came up for .50$ in a 1/2 NL game. I enjoyed playing but I dont think you will ever see these in our life time in the wsop. And i dont think you will see a pro playing for high stakes on them either. I played on them all week, but I got the feeling that had bad beats come up more often than being dealt live cards. But I am also a person that would rather have real cards dealt to me so that I know there is absolutely no computer involvement. Dont get me wrong though, it was a very nice setup and would play them again, and think they do have a future in smaller poker traffic casinos...just a shame they are going to eliminate jobs.

Noone really seems to like them.

I have never see one in real life, but TBH I think they would be really good for small stakes players as the casino could offer smaller games on them as

a) the Hands per hour is greater... so the rake is higher
b) they are automated, so there is no need to pay a dealer to deal.

I really think they would be good for drawing online players into the casinos.

I don't think they would be suitable for much more than entry stakes, but I do think they have their place.

We had a couple of problems on the cruise, but it was more with the staff not knowing that much about the game and or the table. one "game" couldn't start on time because not one could find the casino manager...funny thing is he admitted that he was in the bathroom...lol. I Still like the feel of a real table, concur with comments above, but as for jobs, while the pay may not be as much, I think there still will be work due to all of the maintenance and cleaning of the tables themselves. We found that if your screen was dirty (film fron suntan lotion), it sometimes could not process your selection.

Just returned from Las Vegas last week, and Excalibur has them. They claim to be only ones in vegas with them.

I saw this last time I was in vegas. What I was told by some dealers at other casinos was that the Excalibur basically didn't have much of a choice. They either had to shut down there card room cause of light traffic or install these. They are the only place in vegas right now that I know of that has these but I'm sure they won't be the last. I don't get to play live much so I would always perfer real cards and chips. To me this is like everybody bringing there laptops to a casino and then playing on the internet.
