This is a discussion on Poker and Yoga within the online poker forums, in the General Poker section; Do you also do yoga before any poker session?.
I've read once that yoga helps you're focus and generally is a great help on you're poker
I didn't try yoga, but I regularly visit the gym. Powerlifting helps me to chill out and makes my nerves strong. I almost forgot about tilt. I can make stupid mistakes only after very long night sessions.
By the way, British scientists have shown that 15 minutes of laughter before the mental and physical exertion increases endurance and concentration by 20 percent. Therefore, before playing poker - I look anecdotes by Mamenko.
To tell you the truth, I used to drink a glass of scotch. It relaxes me and help me to get focused. Although, one day I got too drunk and was looking for some alternatives. Reading on the forum what people do, I was also informed by articles like https://yogapractice.com/blog/the-meaning-of-namaste/ and I started doing yoga and meditation. Indian culture is wonderful and their Zen feeling of coming to terms with those around them. Now, during poker, I don't get nervous, I feel completely in control. So it depends on everyone. Although, I still like to enjoy a glass of good drink.
Yoga or any sort of focused, relaxing, body and mind stretching can do nothing but help. However most poker players are not likely to bother or believe that it can help. Very few players, even the pros other than maybe Daniel Negreanu, who is a vegetarian I believe or even a vegan, will bother to try. There are probably a few others, that I am not aware of that do practice yoga or are vegetarian. I also believe Daniel might even practice yoga himself.
I've read once that yoga helps you're focus and generally is a great help on you're poker game.
Way back while I was playing regularly at casinos I always stop by the comfort room and do some stretching so to get ready for playing.
Also on tournaments I always find a way to get solo on breaks and do some yoga.
I find it very helpful and it shows on my results.
Do others have things they do before and after a game?..I would like to know^_^..
congratulations, you are in an advanced state of concentration, just being able to do, I am trying to add these types of exercises, at the moment I practice sports, walking and running. total success and more and more mental health.
Everything that improves your overall health: body, mind, emotions, senses, it is welcome, you will feel comfortable with life, your actions will be more pleasant, you will perform them from passion, your virtues will empower.
Go ahead with everything that makes you feel alive!
What nonsense? How can yoga help you win at poker? Yoga doesn't tell you which card in the deck will be next when dealt on the table. If you believe in such nonsense, then it is better to try to predict the future, for example, through tarot cards. Poker is just luck and a little bit of psychology if you play face to face and not over the internet.
But I do not exclude the fact that yoga helps maintain the flexibility of the body.
Yoga does sound cool for others, but I consider deep, good sleep as yoga itself which could be the beginning of yoga. Then yoga got commercialized as any other thing we do or inhale or consume. Then sleep became less in the news than yoga, since it has got a brand new attractive name. Doctors do agree sleep is underrated and yoga is overrated.
