This question is more pointed towards the people that is NOT making a living out of poker, and are working.

I'm working a fulltime job myself, and I tend to get REALLY tired after work.. but I really want to play poker, but I tend to maybe play a bit poorly.. what's your thoughts and how do you cope with it?

Thanks :)

freeroll during work days

I would play free rolls during the week and on the weekends play your normal games for this way you can practice during the week with still a chance of winning small amounts and when you are rested and can play your top game on the weekends use your bankroll for the more expensive tournaments.

In my case, I work full-time in a private company and when I get home, I come with a lot of desire to play Poker, I think if you have a stressful day we their work that wronged your Poker section think in my opinion we should plan and schedule the days play and if one day is not legal for fatigue reasons or stress of work we should not play not to get out hands on the section of the day.

Play when your not tired, like weekends and maybe if you leave work early and your ready to play. If your not playing your best then you should not play at all. Hope for the best.

My brother is in the same boat. He cannot wait to retire so he can devote full time to this 'hobby'.

I'm a uni student but I also work about 20 hours a week at a fast food job. I will generally go to uni in the afternoon, work in the evening, play poker at night, then wake up at midday and repeat the cycle :p

The problem is that because I'm from Melbourne (Australia), all the good games on Stars run around 12am-6am, so that's why I usually force myself to stay up late and play at those hours.

quit your job and play poker, the only way if you want to earn money because you can always return to work, if you lose all your money by playing poker..

I'm working a full time job now myself, and when I come in the last thing I want to do is play poker. So during the week, if I want to play, I just play cash so I can quit when I get ready to. The MTTs I save for the weekend. Doing like that I'm looking forward to spending a few hours playing, and it seems I do a lot better than I did when all I had to do was to play poker. It does get old.

A strong coffee and a walk around the block, fresh air is great for making you feel alert.

work also take the most part of my life Like many of you-it's really difficalt to working and good playing poker-because you are always tired. I'm trying to play poker on weekends. To get great results in poker you should only live poker you must norm sleeping(enorf), more analyse your game, more watching different poker videos that's not real when you are working(((

quit your job and play poker, the only way if you want to earn money because you can always return to work, if you lose all your money by playing poker..

This forum has some of the worst poker advice, Ive ever seen.

First off, in order to make poker the only venue you need in life to survive and pay bills, one needs to buildup a significant bankroll or cushion of money, to allow them to try and ride out and bad luck streaks that can happen at ANYTIME and eat up your cash you need to pay bills. Then you have the knowledge factor and can you honestly claim to have enough knowledge in the game of poker, to beat it year after year and be in the 10-15% range of players that actually win enough in poker on a continual basis, to make it your only form of liveable income ?

Finally, being able to make a living in poker, and grind it out session after session, week after week, month after month, year after year...is still a
JOB . If you are mainly planing on letting poker a social event of relaxation , and fun at gambling, Id advise you to reconsider trying to make a living off of poker.

Final note , if you want to attempt a living at poker , then you need to know exactly how much money you need each month to survive/ pay bills and then evaluate how much winnings you need per month, to not only pay those neccesities, but also build your bankroll for the downturns in the game.

I once knew a pro poker player in Atlantic city about 20 years ago. He played $ 20-40 limit - 7 -card stud { this was before hold em became so popular} .
He was a GREAT PLAYER , AND HAD MADE A LIVING on soley poker for many years . He was married with 3 kids and he supported his family with poker winnings.

BUT...after years of beating the game , his luck changed drastically { not his skills} and he was no longer beating the game..in fact he was losing badly . The last time I saw him, he had been on a 9 month losing streak and his savings were almost depleted. It had gotten so bad , that his wife was threatening to leave him because they could barely pay the bills each month. This is just one example of how players who play for a living can go thru hell . Its not all glitz and glamour like you see on talmud tv poker shows. Even some of the best poker players around, can and will eventually go thru long bad runs, where they are now living on the edge financially . You ever heard of Cindy Violet ? She plays on the pro circuit and back in Atlantic city { years ago} she went broke and had to borrow money to play poker and try to recoup her bankroll.

Even the great Phil Ivey { largely considered the best poker player on earth] Finally went thru a run of bad luck in poker in 2015, and lost millions { of course he still has a huge bankroll and could always borrow money if he ever bsuted, which I doubt would happen } . And if his bad luck continues for 2016-2017..etc...he will probably lose millions more in poker. Just more proof of the power of good and bad luck, in any form of gambling.

It is almost always a bad decision to play poker with scared money or small bankroll.

poker is a distraction/hobby like golf or sports. Something to keep me busy and help me relax after a long day.
