 when playing poker with wild cards, does the more natural hand always win? For example: 2s are wild, I have K 8 8 2 2 and you have K 7 7 7 2. Does your hand win because it is a more natural hand. And has anyone ever played this way before?

k8822 would win as (4) 8s - k7772 is (4) 7s

it doesn't matter how natural your hand is, just the ranking of your hand, unless you put in some special rules

btw, if you like wilds. play 2,3 and 4's are wild, nothing better than losing with straight flushes/quads :p

I think it goes by ranking and not by the wild cards.
I only ever played wild cards in video poker,so I never used them in other hands with people.

I don't have the book handy but I think Caro's section of Super System was 5 Draw w/ 1 Joker. In fact I think he only spent a minimal amount of time talking about strategy without the joker.

On the whole wild cards are just for silly home games but throwing a joker in a deck can still garner a serious game, I suppose.

In the past when Ive played with wild cards the loser is usually determined by how many seconds they have to drink.

Wild card games are mostly only played in home games these days, so it's up to you to make the house rule. Occasionally I've played stud with wild cards where the more "natural" hand did prevail, and five of a kind beat straight flushes but not royal flushes or something. Up to you and the other players to decide that though.

And Syfted has it, BTW, there are some legit draw poker games that use the joker as a wild card - usually standard draw or ace-five lowball. Don't know that they get played in many casinos these days though, and they certainly haven't been played at the wsop in a good few years.

If the more natural hand wins then the wild cards become irrelevent I think?

If somebody had AKQJ10 and another player had AKQJ + wildcard (for example), the question is whether the hand would be drawn, or whether the first hand would win, if I have understood correctly.

the expression, more natural, Ive never heard of it, sounds fictitious.

if the more natural hand wins, why have wild cards...

you just need to be able to figure out the best possible hand when two or three wild cards are present.

I can see how this can be confusing, but to say does one hand win vs. another hand ? That just sounds silly to me.

When you have wilds guess 5 of a kind is top dog, then royal and so on.

You stick to the same hands in any variation of poker, just add 5 of a kind.

why would you break a tie ?

Tie is just that a chop, there are no tie breakers in poker, lol

When we played with wild cards at schiool, a natural hand did win in the case of a tie. It all depends what rules you have agreed before you start playing, but personally I think it's fairly obvious why a natural hand is better. :icon_scra
