Ive been wondering how the fantasy sports betting was able to run like they have and people treating poker players like there criminals. Just maybe its the real criminals running things when it comes to online poker or should i say against online poker. Shoot i dont know but just a thought.

In Daily Fantasy Sports, you have absolutely no control over the results. In poker, you have more say in the results. You determine when to fold, bet, etc. In DFS, you just pick out a random lineup and hope for the best. DFS is much more of a gamble than poker.

Because lobbyists and loopholes, naturally :p

Plus I suspect (not being American) that fantasy sports has weight of numbers on its side. Make poker illegal and you only affect a relatively small number of people. Make fantasy football illegal, on the other hand, and you make criminals out of anyone who plays in a fantasy football pool with their friends or workmates or whatever... that's probably half the country or something.

Remember that when the exemption for fantasy sports was included in the legislation years ago, DFS wasn't a thing. I'm pretty sure it was only included so that "traditional" office pools and the like would still be allowed to happen.

Well I play both poker and draftking, in my opinion I think they're both games of skills with a touch of luck. Sad really that the fed are watching DFS now, you can definitely see what's coming. First poker now DFS. The government need to leave DFS alone and allow online poker back. And you have some control over the result in DFS just as much as poker.

Poker versus Draft Kings, 20 people with no experience playing poker, studies show 10 given information that gives them an edge the other 10 no information about the game. They play the game for six months as an example, the people who use and expand on this information have an edge because the other ten will always be behind, and after six months the people learning information will have an advantage over those whom did not. This part is subjective.

The analysis of numbers, understanding numbers of how this relates to picking a fantasy team can either be analyzed by the person or even run through software that could help pick their teams for each day as an example. The knowledge about fantasy sports has a cap (Poker does not have this cap), that everyone playing can obtain, after time every person playing can or will eventually have the same ability, and then it comes down to luck once the market is flooded with more people as fantasy sports grows as an example.

The outcome is not decided by the people picking the teams once the game starts, the professionals are tangible, the game the play is tangible, fantasy sport just uses those two tangible’s, because the skill on the field will ultimately decide the outcome, and if they get hurt, have a bad game, or any example that would show once the game starts the outcome is out of the person that picked the team’s control each day. In poker each hand dealt I can ultimately decide how the hand is played out.

Once the inning starts, the quarter starts, the people picking the team has no way of interacting with each other to decide an random outcome unlike poker which each hand can be decided by the person’s ability better than another that requires skill, and luck then has very little to do with the outcome because of the interaction of people deciding an random outcome based on each player’s ability to perform under pressure. Fantasy sports, the ability to perform under pressure, the competition against each other is done on the field and not by the people picking the teams.

Draft Kings offers nothing tangible, that is why it was genius that they have made this company into a money making machine without giving back nothing tangible in return from the money acquired each day. That is why Draft Kings promote the everyday “Joe” can win because it takes no real obtainable skill to pick a team and win that would simulate differences in skill. Marketing genius in their commercials to promote the big check and the everyday “Joe”; fantasy sport will eventually simulate a lottery based outcome in the long run. The brain is result oriented in the short term, and the money won in the short term is what draws the average “Joe” towards playing fantasy sports.

Poker over time can give tangible skills from time spent to acquire them, the variable here is the ability to learn at a rate comparable to the skill obtained from knowledge learned, this means I can learn information at a faster rate than another because of the advanced understanding of how to learn, then applying this skill to learn poker; this is why skill based players do not look at short term results because of how the brain is drawn to results, and our brain’s only will remember the most recent results in the short term good or bad. Fantasy sports are built on short term results.

As I continue to learn for a time that would simulate infinity because of poker not having a cap from which to learn because of the vastness of the game of poker from which to learn, creativity or any other example I could give allows each person to grow their individual game as they see it in their mind based on length of time a person plays poker. A fantasy sport does not offer this tangible information because of the cap of information that is used to pick their teams. The only real advantage is cheating that simulates insider trading because of the lack of regulations on how information is traded among each person right up until the time the real game starts.

Applying learned information in poker, a person can use this acquired skilled from knowledge learned to compete with another person that will give the person with better abilities in the long run an advantage whether I play live or online, and I will always have unconscious competence of mastered skills and the ability to learn more information; with no way to take what I know away from me. I would not choose to play fantasy sports but I sure do admire the people’s ability to build a company from the entrepreneur side of forward thinking without offering anything tangible in return; hats off to Draft Kings.

I genuinely would like to know why you think a freezeout with increasing blinds is skill, but playing deeper stacks is gambling.

The answer ultimately varies. In the US of course there's tons of pressure on poker due to its gambling nature.

Conversely, in germany gambling winnings are tax free. Therefore when German players win large tournaments the government sends them a bill for the taxes since they clearly had an edge on the field and therefore were playing a game of skill which would require taxes be paid.

In terms of DFS as skill versus gambling, the attempt was made to show a small percent of players won the vast majority of payouts to argue it's not gambling. Looks like that argument will work as well for them as it did for poker.

It is pretty simple on the legality part , When UIGEA was passed (the law that prohibited banks from engaging in activity with online gambling sites) it was written by lobbyists who were mainly working for the NFL . So they wrote in a loophole for "Fantasy Sports" . Some of the people running Draftkings/FanDuel are former poker players who noticed the loophole and set up sites to take advantage .

Now on the skill topic, DFS definately takes some skill to win consistently at however because you have less control over actions (set lineup , injuries , coaching strategy , and salary cap) than in poker , I believe your skill edge in DFS is much smaller than in poker . Its pretty hilarious in the land of the free that you can't play a game of skill like poker , but lotteries are perfectly fine . . .

That seems to be the basic issue in Nevada with the Fantasy games. The state wants to make sure they get their cut. I don't think they are really trying to ban it.

Quite the opposite actually, if all the recent stories and coverage are to be believed - the skilled players in DFS have a huge edge over the ordinary players, because the ordinary players won't be willing to (or won't be able to) make the required investment in analytics and automation.
