Poker today is a much much more complex than it was back in the days. Unimaginably. There is so much things people care about during the game, ranges at most. So much math goes into it. To stay on top you need to update your game all the time.

Yes, this game is all about adapting. I suspect it will probably always be changing to a degree. Interesting to note is that the game isn't the only thing that changes. As we grow as poker players, we change too.

in poker if you do not continue to improve your game, you are easily overtaken by others. especially against players who know your style of play and are used to seeing you play every day. to stay on top, you have to adapt to your environment and be rigorous and disciplined

That’s so true! At the same time I think that everything keeps evolving (games or otherwise) just that the pace varies tremendously. When there’s a period of increased rapid interest in anything, the available knowledge quickly improves—like say with the quality of art shooting up during the Renaissance when the masters constantly competed for being considered the most skilled. Art techniques advanced so much during that time of way more interest.

Furthermore, most things are probably as advanced as they’ve ever been in the present, but as we zoom out it turns out they had way farther to expand then we could’ve imagined in the future. Take the internet in the early 2000’s for example.

I think poker did hit a Renaissance with the poker boom and agree that way more people have a better understanding of the math involved than at the beginning of the Moneymaker era. At the same time, I think there’s still way more to learn and discover [emoji4]

Agree.

And its about control yourself. U can not win all the time .
Certainly for me and make the best decision regardless of the outcome. and having control, yes, but knowing what you're doing

It is good that it is a complex and constantly changing game because if it were not so it could become a monotony and its charm would disappear.

Sure with the expend of the internet, almost every information is in front your face, we books, videos, lessons on every side we turn. Professional players even get payed from other people to play the tour, after they share % from the winnings normal if they won some prize. I'm against one thing in poker and that's it's HUD. unibet don't permit using it, so I play there more often then other sites. In life you can't get HUD why you should getting it online. What are your opinions for that? It's like artificial brain that collect data from you and using against, same thing like big corporations doing.

I just play micros stakes, so the game isn't so tough. You do have to adapt to what's going on at the tables to be ahead of your opponents.

I totally agree OP like almost every other aspect of life, you have to stay on top of it, and in a game where someone else is going the extra mile to take your money .... if you do not look for ways to continue to improve, you will fall behind, become stale, and give that person your money most likely ... much of my life has been spent in classes for one thing or another, just to keep up ... not a hard thing for me .. I love to learn ... and I don't like to let the grass grow under my feet : )

poker game evolves constantly so it was always needed to follow the trend. online poker though gave so many new possibilities software to interfere that the game evolved very quickly and became much different than live poker. In online poker we now have HUDs, hand history collectors and analyzers, solvers, equity calculators and immense amount of training materials. Multi tabling for example is something that simply can not be possible in live game.

So yes - online poker becomes more and more complicated but that makes it both interesting and affordable to many more people. Before the era of online poker not many people could afford to visit casino and play poker as it required both time and money to do so. Now almost everybody with phone or pc, internet and few $ (even without few $ thanks to freerolls) can play no matter where in the world he is. For me personally if there was no online poker i don't know if i would ever start playing. Live poker is also developing - we see more and more people on wsop, EPTs and other big tournaments so i think that live and online forms of poker do not compete but rather help each other to further expand the game in the world. :)

My opinion is that professional poker has been dead for a long time, there is only entertainment left

I think the main thing that stayed the same is that when you have seen some hands of an opponent. You get a feel for them and can figure out exploitable habits.

You know what? I've been playing online for 17 years. And I've not improved at all in that time. But I still don't think I should give up playing. I don't read because I can't concentrate and get bored. I can't do maths. I don't know anything about odds. Does this mean I shouldn't play? I'm playing anyway

Hello.
Obviously, to be one of the best, you need to constantly analyze and improve your game. This is hard daily work.
Good luck.

I don't even know how to improve my game already, I've tried all the tips of professionals, read books, analyzed handouts, made notes on opponents, but when your top pair gets rid of garbage cards, it's depressing, Yes, Yes, I also thought that everything is leveled at a long distance, but believe me, this dmstation for some reason does not output a plus?

yes for sure poker is one of the most complex games in existence! And what you said is right, to be among the best we have to dedicate ourselves a lot to studies and never stop, because that is what top players do tirelessly.

Without a doubt, you have to work hard to be the first. However, today, poker can still be a source of good revenue for persistent players.

I play poker for fun and I measure its complexity only by level of received entertainment
