What are some of the tells you've manged to learn while playing?
1. Player grabs chips like he's going to bet in later position and lets you see it = weak
2. Sipping drink after bet followed by sitting back. Tricky and depends on player but usually weak.
3. Talking a lot after river bet = weak
4. Heart pounding/ heavy breathing = strong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I always see this and it's my main tell to fold.
5. Check call , check call, huge river bet with blank board = call right away! These suckers always try to steal when they miss. again depends on player but you should have an idea of who you're playing with by then.
6. Says I'll show you after river bet = weak
7. And finally the guy chatting you up who gets into a hand with you and bets big on the river after a blank flush/or str8 card hits will try to all in bluff you. But that's just my exp. I'm young looking and the old guys always want a piece of my stack or to say they bluffed me lol.

More poker tells here.

Well I dont have many experiences in live poker, but I think its not that easy, like everybody who bets big on blank river is tryng to bluff you, or everybody who talks a lot after river bet is weak...

Tells, for On Line Poker

Well I dont have many experiences in live poker, but I think its not that easy, like everybody who bets big on blank river is tryng to bluff you, or everybody who talks a lot after river bet is weak...

What would some tells be for on line poker where one can not see the villain.
Last nite, I made a bad read, and was knocked out of the tourney, 14 from the money, because my read was the big stack in SB was trying to push me out. Wrong. He had a decent hand.

1. Looking at his cards many times -weak.

2. He is observing the table/person - knows poker tells, strong player.

3. How he handle and arrange his chips - very savvy hands and well arranged chips- most likely strong player.

I think the biggest tells are the ones where you've played with a player a few times and see what he or she calls / goes all in with / bets with.

Online I usually try to sit back for a bit and see what hands people go to the river with and see if they raised / called to begin with.

You have about 3 different types of players:

The tight ones that only play with very good hands or call with lesser hands because of pot odds. Hard to bust them because they are very disciplined but if you catch them on tilt or get lucky with nuts vs. their 2nd nuts.

The aggressive ones that push AK to the end without hitting. These guys go broke over time once you catch on to them and their shenanigans unless you get unlucky vs. them in a showdown

The amateur ones who think that 2 pair is good for an all in with a straight / flush / full house draw on the board. These guys you cannot bluff for the most part.

My suggestion is sit back for a bit and just observe everyone at the table and pick out 2-3 people that you can get a grasp on, see what they turn over on rivers and replay the betting / tells that went on and take mental note of it.

As for tells it depends on which type of player these guys fall into because the amateur may give signs that he is strong when he thinks his 2 pair is Amazing. I feel each individuals tell is different and some people who signal a weak hand, would be a signal for a strong hand for others.

Don't overlook poker tells, sometimes they show you intentionally tells that you are listing above. Poker and blackjack are actually simple, just see the board and winning percentage compared with pot. If you are bluffed by somebody, it means they play good enough, you can't always expect that you must win every hand, there is a time when you are totally beaten, either by bluff or cards... remember... beaten.. no matter how good you are.. don't do unnecessary thing,,
When I rely on tells, once I got pushed all in while I had KK, the guy seemed nervous, I called.. he had AA.. so nervous can be two signs.. poker tells also can be two direction... at the end u must guess... 50-50 probability again...

The most reliable tells are betting patterns. You run into people that will bet 2/3 pot with top pair top kicker or better. They may never cbet into 3 people if they miss the flop. I always put these tells ahead of anything physical. I have seen some of the tells that have been listed but I would never put them ahead of betting patterns.

It's not as simple as that. People give away information in not exactly the same way. Sometimes people give off the wrong tells to confuse the opponent.

Doesn't mean one should be discouraged but i feel one has to understand the kind of personality the player is to be able to interpret what action means strength and otherwise.

Also the means of extracting information can differ from player to player. Against some we can engage in a conversation or ask a question and depending on the response we can try and gauge whether his strong or weak. Against silent type of players for example say chris ferguson, there is no point talking during a hand. So we have to find different avenues to extract information - use your memory recall to play back not only this hand from the start but also history if any against the opponent on the kind of game style he adopts. If you have good recall then you can be successful against a player you play against regularly.
Also bet sizing can give you information, plays like check raising are also used to extract information. :smokin:

This is true. I stare at their carotid pulses and they're like wtf you looking at. You can literally see their pulse going really fast

Except sometimes it's hard to tell if they're really strong and they're excited or if they're bluffing so they're nervous

If you ask me some of those tells may be purposely acted out. For example the ones that are classified as weak. If had a strong hand I would try and act as if I am weak maybe talk a lot if you interrpert that as weak so you would call and I would be at the end very happy. All I am trying to say is that not all actions are made purposely or they are purposely made. It is a devious sport keep in mind. If I make you believe you are on top usually I am the one winning at the end.

Believe it or not some tells are completely involuntary. I remember once or twice having incredibly strong hands and started sweating as well as my hands shaking perceivably. I knew it but couldn't control my actions. Now I wear hats and mittens... lol... jk on the last statement but true on the first ones...

I have not played enough live poker to be able to generate any kind of tells, but it does seem to me that if somebody looks at his cards again, it's a signal he does not have a strong hand. The reason I believe this is because I have noticed that when I check my hole cards again late in a hand (say after the flop or turn), it is usually because I didn't hit what I needed.
