I was thinking about poker that is most talked about is strategies, how to play, where the increase; Letters to increase; Letters to not play, tips in general ... it's all explained in books forums. There are tons of information on what to do in poker, is very important. but do not serve anything if you are not emotionally balanced. Let's be honest how many times, we enter a tournament and fell fast? Or how many times we feel persecuted by a player and make wrong moves driven by emotion and are eliminated? in a post I made here in this forum, I asked the following, if people were being cursing at the tables, and then a player to make as many orbits he plays until the fall, he can play well, but nothing lasting! then believe that nothing worth knowing all poker strategies; with his emotional disturbance. . then an idea for the players and for myself; the next time you sit down at a poker table in between blissful ;peace, have fun ... have Equilibrio, otherwise, do not sit at the table. because no matter if you are the best player in the world, if you are not balanced, will lose money. This is my thought, you might disagree. I hope it helps someone.

The difficulty within 'strategies are no use without emotional balance' is that most people, unless born with a serene disposition, will need a strategy for maintaining emotional balance.

External events don't arrive with an inherent meaning - that's what we make. But the making can, and most often does, happen out of conscious awareness and by a variety of mechanisms which, to the average man on the street, may as well be involuntary.

So the solution is to sensitise to state shifts which increases the opportunity to operate on state at will. This in turn leads to other problems - but they are at least better than being a victim to external stimuli and, within a specific context such as poker, can be a significant benefit.

Emotion clouds reason but since emotion is just human nature reason will always take a back seat when it comes to poker.

It pays to remain calm and collective even under pressure at the poker table as it would influences your decision on the table.

I agree with you. We need a stable mind and not let our emotions influence our decisions! Strategies and tips can only get us so far in the game, after that we are on our own. This definitely helped me thanks for sharing your opinion. :)

Just to serve an example.... possibly the greatest poker player ever, by bracelet count anyways, Phil Helmuth. In my opinion, he got overly verbal emotional about hands, other players, etc at two final tables.

Watching the wsop live stream, he was ko'd at both. You could actually sense and see the meltdowns..... as did a few other smiling villains at the table. They just let him self-destruct.

The whole time I'm thinking cool it Phil, shuddup. But he didn't and I believe emotion cost him a shot at #14.

This is where discipline comes in to save you. No matter how emotional you are or can be if you inculcate discipline in your game then you can overcome the drawbacks of being emotional.

Here is an article :- https://www.cardschat.com/poker-strategy.php

Hate when I let my emotions take over and ruin my game. Prime example, my buddy was watching me today play $5NL .02/.04. I have A8s. Guy raises before my to .20. One left to act after me. I call putting that guy on a PP without an A in his hand. Flop comes A4x. Don't recall 3rd card and was irrelevant. Guy who raised to .20 was first to act. He pushes for 2.02. I even told my friend and called it. This guy has a high PP and that A beats him and he is trying to protect it I call. Well guy left to act after me puts me all in for about $4.xx. So, instantly I am like WTF. I am beat this guy flopped a set or 2 pair yet while I am saying that to my buddy I even say **** IT i already put half of that in the pot I call. Guy flips over pocket 4s for the set. After that hand I just start thinking in my head. Why the hell would I call for $2 more when I logically know I am beat now and do not have the best hand. Seems like easy fold now that hand is over.

EDIT: OH YEA! That guy that pushed for 2.02 on that flop. He had KK just like I called. So I had the right read.

I think a lot of poker is emotional control. For example, last night I was on tilt, and the worst part is I KNEW IT. I wanted to quit for the night but I just couldn't bring myself to do it. I lost pretty much the whole of my bankroll and went all in on a stupid hand. Now I know I was stupid as hell and now I'm going to have to to rebuild it again through freerolls :'(
