Page 2 - This is a discussion on Poker Really is Just Complete Luck (At Least At Lower Level) within the online poker forums, in the General Poker section; what r ur views on this, i won maybe 8 tournaments with 300-1000 or so people. i made the final table a ton of times
I think luck is big factor, i get knocked out of MTT with pocket AA vs 37. Dude call all my raises (i raise pre flop ofc, i was on the button he was BB) untill he hit flush on river. He hit one diamond on the flop, other two came on turn and river. Skill is very important, but if u run into lucky fool who call everything.. This happen in 0.55$ MTT.

luck in poker
I think that poker is primarily a game of the head (you can sblefirovat with garbage in your hands so that your opponent will fold if he does not have a monster on his hands), and of course you need a little luck ... and most importantly you always have a choice , as they say: either Pan, or gone !!!

Especially in freerolls there is an immense amount of luck involved. You cannot win a tournament without being lucky.
Anyone who attributes a win purely to skill just has lots of hubris.
That's not to say skill doesn't play some role, but nobody is winning a large field tourney on skill alone.

I believe it was Texas Dolly who said the three C's to winning Poker were Cunning, Courage and Cards. The first two are pretty much self-explanatory but Cards refers to luck. Those who believe Holdem to be a "solved" game and are blinded by mathematics call luck "variance" and deny any element of luck. Luck plays a bigger role in tournament poker than it does in cash games ;with the blinds ever increasing in tounament play you are forced to play weak hands or risk being blinded to death. So if the luck to skill ratio of cash is 70% to 30% in a cash game for tournaments it is 30% to 70%. Those are not are not hard numbers but rather only my suggestion as to how the numbers might break down. On a final note it is my belief it is all luck ,it is just that some people manage their luck better than others.
May you always run well and never be felted.
